Focus on the Family Praises "Twilight" Vampire Love Movie

**Update** Some readers have mistakenly stated that I am claiming Focus on the Family "endorsed" the Twilight Movie. I very clearly stated that they praised the movie in the context of their review, and I linked to the complete review to make my point. Rather than clearly warn their online readers to stay away from what God condemns, Focus on the Family analyzes this cinematic swill and its relative merits and demerits. It is the equivalent of looking for some edible morsel of food in a dumpster of maggot-covered garbage. God says to flee these things, not try to find something positive to say about what is already off limits to believers. Too many Christian movie review sites today are not faithfully conveying what God's Word has to say. Scripture warns us in James 4:4 that friendship with the world is enmity against God. We are not to go running to everything the world has to offer and try desperately to find some redemptive feature in material that is, on its face, rebellion against God. Eric Barger lists some of the things the Twilight movie contains in his piece for CWN. He writes:

The storyline of Twilight is generally two faceted. It is first "boy vampire meets a mortal girl" and secondarily "'good' vampires fight 'bad' vampires." Then there are the werewolves introduced in the second book, New Moon.

Many of the characters in the novel possess supernatural abilities such as:
- Mind reading
- Levitation
- Lycanthropy (shape shifting)
- Pre-cognitive knowledge of future events - mediumship
- Super strength, hearing and speed
- They also don't eat, sleep or need to breath

A careful reading of Deuteronomy 18:9-12 clearly outline God's final word on many of these vampire attributes.

Focus on the Family needs to issue unmistakable warnings to families to stay away from this kind of movie. A pro/con evaluation is not going to cut it. At a time of rampant biblical illiteracy, urging parents to immerse their children in the Word of God would be a good alternative.**

Somebody wake me up and tell me this is a bad dream. Caryl Matrisciana, a long time occult researcher and movie producer, reports that Focus on the Family's Plugged In Online website this to say about the Twilight vampire movie phenomenon. Caryl writes:

The Christian organization, Focus on the Family's "Plugged In Online," website has this very positive thing to say to Christians desiring to see a movie about a vampire, a teenage girl, and their lust for one another. "Family is a big part of what nurtures Twilight's love. Edward's coven-family-of vampires is a loving one. Each member is committed to protecting the others, even Bella when she becomes part of them through her relationship with Edward."

So vampires are OK as long as their in a loving coven, er, family? Time to focus on the Word of God instead of trying to find a pro-family theme in a vampire movie with occult content. Don't whine about losing the "culture", anybody. Christians have bent over backwards to become the culture and now are indistinguishable from it.

Here is Caryl's full report on the movie.
