Re: Christians Teaching First Woman Named Adam?

Dwayna is continuing to peg Christians who disagree with her as pagans. I would suggest that she look at scripture by reading through the words of Genesis from using a good lexicon. She will see that God called both the man and the woman as "man" and the Hebrew word is "Adam". If Dwayna was educated by studying the text in the original languages, as she is debating a CBE speaker's facts, she would see that the speaker has said the facts from Genesis correctly. The term "woman" that Adam gives her after her creation shows her likeness to him. The name "Eve" given her by Adam was given after sin happened and he started his rule over her. If Dwayna is going to use this forum for disagreeing with Christians from CBE, I would suggest that she checks her facts carefully before she labels a fellow Christian as having a spirit opposite to the Holy Spirit. A careful reading of the Hebrew would correct Dwayna's confusion.

I read Mr. Grudem's piece in full, and came away with a completely different understanding as Litz. Makes me wonder if we were actually reading the same thing.

I was surprised to find that Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) is being called a pagan movement within the church. While the debates between complementarian and egalitarian positions have occasionally flared outside of gracious debate, accusations here appear uninformed and misleading. Certainly, CBE welcomes questions from anyone who wishes to test our dedication to the Word of God and to orthodox theology. But we hoped that these concerns would be brought to CBE first, as the Bible instructs (Matt 18:15-17), rather than displayed on the Web. We are concerned for people who are not familiar with the debate or with CBE scholars otherwise, and who may be misled by the assumptions about CBE. While an undergraduate education is certainly not a prerequisite for critiquing biblical truth, some claims are not well-researched and in some cases, are just badly informed. Those familiar with CBE will identify the error in accusations like the following: 1. Paralleling CBE with the once-Baptist author Sue Monk Kidd and her connections to Gnostic traditions, and claiming CBE could find a kindred spirit in the Da Vinci Code. Both are undocumented and untrue. First, CBE affirms that the Da Vinci Code is unbiblical and does not portray women as Jesus does (see CBEs blog post regarding this). Second, the word gnosticism is used without clear definition. From the encyclopedia: Gnosticism is a historical term for various mystical initiatory religions, sects and knowledge schools which were most active in the first few centuries of the Christian/Common Era . . . These systems typically recommend the pursuit of mysticism or special knowledge (gnosis) as the central goal of life. CBE never addresses secret knowledge, but rather promotes extensive, cohesive, and prayerful study of the Bible and Christian history to uncover the consistent teaching of biblical equality found in the Bible. We conduct all aspects of our ministry in the light (John 3:19-21) so we may be tested. CBE encourages questions if anyone fears they are being led into unorthodox, cultish practices. We promote nothing of the sort and rather, want to pursue the truth of Gods vision for the Church (1 Cor 12, 13). 2. Claiming CBE advocates worship of the Divine Feminine and denies Jesus maleness. President Mimi Haddads article highlights both masculine and feminine imagery for God found in the Bible, but Haddad never compels her readers to worship the Divine Feminine! Rather, Haddad insists God is Spirit, as Scripture teaches (John 4:24). To suggest that God is a woman, or a man, would reduce God to a human being. Haddad takes no issue with Jesus as a male, but Jesus masculinity in no way suggests that God is male. 3. Proposing that CBE and the egalitarian movement lead to pagan feminism. This is certainly not biblical and defames the very God we worship! CBEs bookservice, Equality Depot, carries multiple books decrying such practices, including Aida Besancon Spencers The Goddess Revival and Catherine Edwards Sanders Wiccas Charm. Both critique paganism from a biblical perspective, while explaining why heretical movements gain popularity among feminists who sense Christian churches undervalue the contributions of women. As I walk with Christ, I recognize Satan working through division. As Jesus said, a house divided cannot stand, no less a kingdom (Mark 3:24-25). Satan would like nothing more than to set the Body of Christ against itself, which will ultimately destroy the Kingdom. If any part of the Body is not functioning to its fullest capacity, then we are preventing the Body from growing to the full stature of Christ (Eph 4:11-16). CBE calls for every person to be reconciled to God as a new creation; this is a biblical, godly, work (2 Cor 5:17-20). Jesus says you can tell a tree by its fruits, and can judge deceivers by the bad fruits they produce (Matt 7:15-20). We are grateful for the many that have been touched, healed, and freed by the gospel through CBEglory to God. If this fruit is bad, then I dont know what is good. We pray the work of CBE continues to be done with humble spirits before God, doing justice and loving mercy (Micah 6:8). -Heather CBE Blog Administrator

This was not realy an article. It was a collection of quotes which the author needed to combine. The author needs to state what they are trying to say instead of relying on readers to figure out what they sre trying to convey through quotes. Obviously what the author has shown is disturbing, but I don't understand the connection from Eve being named Adam to the DaVinci Code. Exactly what point is the author trying to make?

I'd have to say that there is some serious tampering with the translation of the bible. This is warned against in Revelations. I am also saddened by the fact that there are people gullible enough to believe false teachings. Hopefully everyone follows Paul's advice and tests the word for themselves.

I'd suggest not just quoting false teaching and leaving it at that. Some people may be tempted to believe her interpretations, or at least not know how to respond.
