I find it almost impossible to believe what I hear when preachers say that "Satan's time is short, so he's trying his best to delay things..." Why do I think that way? First, is Satan a lazy slacker who procrastinates? If it is true that Satan has heightened his attacks in recent times to delay matters, why hasn't he maintained such a heightened attack since Adam first sinned? Was he lazy in the beginning, did he lack energy, lack desire, or was he just procrastinating? ANSWER: God is in control of Satan's activity, and has been holding it back until the end times. 2 Thes 2:7, "For the secret power of lawlessness [demonic activity] is already at work; but the one [Holy Spirit] who now holds it back will continue to do so till he [Holy Spirit] is taken out of the way [not removed]." Satan has always desired to devour us (1 Pet 5:8), but God has been the one to suppress his activity. In other words, Satan hasn't heightened his attacks because he's trying to delay the coming of Christ, but only because God has ALLOWED SATAN IN THESE LAST DAYS TO DO SO, SO THAT WE MAY "KNOW THE TIMES..." and be comforted by this knowledge (2 Thes 1:7, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,), and not be ashamed at His coming (1 John 2:28, "Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.") God knew, through His foreknowledge, what Satan was going to do when he was given the opportunity, and God incorporated Satan’s foreknown activity into his plan (Eph 1:11, "...having been predestined according to His purpose who works ALL THINGS after the counsel of His will.")
