Great article - balanced and insightful. Paul said to Timothy "Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.(2 Tim 1:6-7) So often "faith healers" say faith comes by abandoning the mind - actually, Godly faith is known by a sound mind, and Satanic influence is known by its twisted results.

False dichotomy

It's either your way or that of faith healers? There's no in-between? You have set up a false choice. The poor behavior of faith healers is irrelevant to the issue. Paul mentions the gift of healing in 1 Cor 12:28-31, after which we are instructed to eagerly desire the greater gifts. Jesus said in John 14:11-12, "Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."

    I was going to post John 14:11-12, but somebody beat me to it. If this is a *promise* of Jesus then we Western Christians need to take a very hard look at ourselves. However, I also support the author's premise that seeing signs and wonders really does not guarantee a person's belief. Nowhere to me is this more evident than the nation of Israel turning to a golden calf shortly after watching God part the Red Sea in two. Blessed are those who believe and have not yet seen.
