If Paul Was Speaking of Nations

Paul was not speaking of nations when he wrote the book of Romans, he was speaking of all humanit individually and collectively. This article doesn't apply.
Since NO country is a nation filled with believers and/or governed by His commands, teachings and expectations, all nations degenerate and fall. There is no way for a nation to follow God's commands or be a Christian nation. When He returns and sets up His kingdom on this ball of dirt, we will see perfect rule but not perfect hearts (one last rebellion after 1000 years). What makes us think that our attempts to 'christianize' any nation will somehow turn God's wrath from that nation? All nations are filled with sinners and are under wrath and no amount of moralism (Paul specifically addresses the moralists in Romans doesn't he?) will change the course of human hisory.
Grace and Peace,
Jim

- NATIONS ARE BLESSED BY GOD
| Posted On: 05/21/09 08:23:30 AM | | Age 65, OH | Hi Jim, while you make a good point, nations are not saved but men are saved. The nation of Israel was blessed by God for be obedient to God. The nation of Israel was judged for disobeying God. These two things are facts and God tells us so in the scriptures. You speak as the people who follow The Lord Jesus cannot cause a nation to be blessed by God. When God clearly says He will heal this nation IF the "Christians" of this land will repent and act. 2 Chronicles 7:14 "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." - Lou Newton Click here to reply to this post

A Lamp

Thank you, Mr. Howse, for your concise, Biblically responsible article.
I am reminded of Psalm 119:105 "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." "Thank You, Lord, for Your infallible Word!"
Reading one of the responses to your article, I am also reminded of Psalm 14:1 "The fool has said in his heart, "there is no God."
Thanks again for being bold and courageous in your writing.

Returning to God a must

Thank you, Brandon, for your wisdom and sticking to the Word of God for your understanding. This is what we all must do each and every day in all our decisions in order to be blessed of God.
Can our nation be turned around? Only by a special moving of the Holy Spirit convicting first His people and then the unbelievers of their sin. Then we must humble ourselves, confess that sin and turn to Him.
Without this turning back to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob we have no hope!

God has graciously given us free will to abide in Him and eternity, but man has chosen to follow his own rules, rather than God's. Our leaders are now redefining social behavior per 'political correctness', while our courts are legislating morality as determined by their own narcissistic thinking rather than the standard set by God. Yes, this scenario has destroyed other nations, but if Christians in our great country stand together as "soldiers of the Cross, I believe God will once again bless us as a NATION UNDER GOD! Gay Marriage

In New Hampshire the same-sex marriage bill has yet to be signed into law, but has a provision that no clergy has an "obligation" to officiate at a same-sex marriage. Isn't it bold of these legislators to even think they can legislate the "obligations" of pastors and clergy when we know no pastor is obligated to marry anyone, and their guidance should come from the word of God instead of the state. Some day they will legislate "obligations" for pastors and then you will see some go to jail instead of obeying the state. We are in the midst of many legislative fools.

You are right on. THe church has to wake up and express outrage over what is happening or we'll see the judgement, too. It is our responsibility to do something and far too many want to put their heads in the sand. We need to stand up for what we believe! Work like it is all up to us to change it and pray like it is all up to God!

I see apathy all the time

Brannon, Thank you for speaking the truth! I work at a pro-life educational organization Human Life Alliance (www.humanlife.org) and I encounter horrible apathy all the time. I would rather see someone wholeheartedly pro-abortion or wholeheartedly pro-life than someone who just doesn't care! You can at least talk to them then and try to educate them on the topic! But if they are in the apathetic mushy (and often Christian) middle - you can't even bring up the topic because they don't want to hear anything about it. It is one of our greatest obstacles in educating the younger generation. Our hardest audience is often when we distribute our materials at a Christian college - they just don't care! At least at the secular colleges they will get up in arms and debate the issue. Anyway, check out our website to read our materials (www.humanlife.org) and let me know if anyone could use these materials for their church or school. We must educate people and get past our apathetic slump. With the Obama administration shoving through all this anti-life legislation, this is no time to be sitting on our hands.
Thank you again for speaking the truth Brannon!

Long time coming

As I was growing up people used to doubt the Bible because the USA was not mentioned in the End Times. The reason this is so has become more apparent to me as time and events progress. Unless people in the U.S. repent and return to Jesus this nation will become increasingly irrelevant on the world stage. Our government's turning it's back on Israel makes this even more dramatically apparent.
There is still time for revival but I fear it will not happen. Thus our own actions as a nation verify the reason why it is not directly described in the end times of the Bible; we are traveling down The Roman Road to Wrath as you say.
Our people have turned away from God and He is turning His Face away from us.

Sweden is one of the most advanced, crime-free and progressive nations in the world, and almost completely atheist. Christians divorce rate is higher than that of atheists, as is your crime rate.
As an atheist I am offended by your gratuitious libel and your almost incomprehensible ignorance. Your piece could not have been more wrong if you had intended it to be so.

- WHY IS EUROPE DYING
| Posted On: 05/14/09 09:44:42 AM | | Age 65, OH | Dear friend, Brannon did not send you his article but you came to his site to read it. You did not practice what you preach and we are glad of it. We welcome your input even if your religion disagrees with ours. You say Sweden is crime free and atheist. 1st of all I have read that Sweden is up to 85% agnostic and atheist. Agnostic is not atheist! The agnostic is much more logical than the atheist. The agnostic is more honest and says that he does not know if there is a God. But the atheist is illogical and says that he does not hear the voice of God and therefore no one else can hear the voice of God. Because deaf men exist, does not mean that all men are deaf. Just because you do not know Calculus does not mean there is no such thing as calculus. This is very elementary reasoning. Just because you have never met my dad, does not mean that he did not exist. I would even bet you could not believe that I did not have a dad. I did have a dad and I did know him. I am sure that he exists. I also know my Creator and I am sure that He exists. He has proven to me that He loves me. I walk with Him and talk with Him every day. - You say Sweden is crime free. Of course one can claim there is no crime in Sweden if they claim there is no such thing as crime. Sweden is full of crime. I have read that they have a very high rate of homosexuality and that is a crime against humanity itself. The penalty for this crime is just and sure. Homosexuality causes much disease and death. If fact if the whole nation becomes homosexual then there will be no people in Sweden in a very few years. - Look at the Muslims in all of Europe; many of them believe that the violent murder of innocent children and women is good and not evil. Their crime is terrible by any sane and rational person. Yet one could make an argument that even the Muslims are not under the terrible judgment that the Europeans are. What more terrible judgment is there than death and to cease to exist. Yet Europe is dying and no can can argue that this is not true. Europe will cease to exist is a very few decades. Europe will be Muslim, for they are increasing while the whites are dying off. One could argue that this is the judgment they have brought on their own people by their murder of their own children ( abortion) and homosexuality and other crimes against God who you claim does not exist. But this death that they have brought on themselves cries out much louder than your mere human voice. Blaming God for the death of Europe is like blaming God for the death of a man who jumps off of a very tall building. The Bible is full of warnings not to do the things that Europe is doing. If you jump off of the building you will die. Europe is dying for they have forgotten their Creator and do not follow His advice. If Europe turns to God and asks Him to save them, He will surly save them. It seems better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. May you seek God so He will reveal Himself to you. Grace and peace to you. - Lou Newton Click here to reply to this post

- What he really means
| Posted On: 05/12/09 05:10:31 PM | | Age 58, MA | Good old atheist! Taking offense at some one's faith. How typical! When you wrote "Keep your religion to yourself", what he really means is "I don't like what you say so shut up!" Hey if you're offended by someone's faith, don't read the article. Simple as that! If you never read the article, you would never be "offended". I could say your attitiude offends me but I'll be the bigger man. I read your response, though sad as it is, though expected coming from a closed minded atheist, has a right to be expressed. More gracious than you are to others of opposing views.

God is already judging

Look at how many times that God says because of his people's sin, he therefore gave us over to our sin. All these things you mention in the article are a SIGN that we are ALREADY UNDER JUDGEMENT!
“Because, knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were thankful. But they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools
and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves.
For they changed the truth of God into a lie, and they worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this cause, God gave them up to dishonorable affections. For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature.
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another; males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error.
And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right,
being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; being full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, evil habits, becoming whisperers,
backbiters, haters of God, insolent, proud, braggarts, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
without discernment, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful;
who, knowing the righteous order of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but have pleasure in those practicing them.”
Romans 1:21-32, MKJV.
