Seeker sensitive

Warren has exchanged the real Gospel for the soft sell, gospel lite of the seeker sensitive movement and has also joined hands with the emergent church movement. Neither of these movements believes in the inerrancy of Scripture and they don't like to speak of sin, hell, or the devil. Anything negative they want to ignore because just like Osteen and the rest of these numbskulls, they want to accommodate the world because they think the world won't listen to them if they talk about any of these "negative" items.
I rather believe that we NEED to tell them the truth with passion. The world is looking for reality, something they can truly and honestly hold onto in the world of shifting sands. They can tell when guys like Warren are lying to them and when they are fakers. Warren, Hybels, Osteen and most of the rest are phonies. Any Christian who reads and studies the Bible will recognize these losers in a heartbeat and run the other way!

Don't necessarily agree with Rick on some things....

BUT...he did say that HE believes Jesus is the way "I'm not the authority on that, but I believe Jesus is. And everybody's betting their life on something. Jesus said, "I am the way." I'm betting that he's not a liar. I'm betting that he told the truth"
I like that he says the name JESUS - a very powerful name indeed.
There are just many, many who are deceived and have veils over their eyes.

You're being a little hard on Rick Warren

While I found the concept of "Try Jesus for 60 days" and the comment about "your money back" very much on the cheesy side, I think you are being a little hard on Rick Warren. I don't see evidence that he is compromising the gospel. He's not putting Jesus forward as one of many ways to God.
As far as "Try Jesus", Psalm 34:8 tell us to
"Taste and see that the Lord is good!"
John chapter 1 has several instances that could be translated today as - "Come check it out!" (See John 1:39 & 46)

- rick warren is gospel ignorant and so are most Christians
| Posted On: 12/05/08 05:16:49 PM | | Age 54, IN | This is gospel ignorance. We can't try Jesus. When we become contrite, broken, dispaired over our sin, God looks down and says, now you are fit for the kindgom. Then, and only then, HE chooses US. We do not choose him. You must come to him with nothing to offer him but our sin. You can't come for any other reason, e.g., to get heaven, to get a purposeful life, to improve this or that, etc., but for righteousness. Come on Christians, learn to the gospel the way Jesus taught it. Log onto to Way of the Master .com and it this knowledge will improve you gospel wisdom and discernment. (Thank God you don't have to be gospel-wise to get saved, but you must be to keep from producing false converts. Sit up and take notice NOW!) Click here to reply to this post

Rick Warren is on target.

Rick Warren was right on target. He told everyone about Jesus' role in salvation. He even gave an invitation, not unlike an invitation that might be given by any other true believer. The"money back guarantee" was very clever and represented small talk. No one could have come away from seeing and hearing that program uninformed about the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. Jess

Repent for 60 days?

Rick Warren rarely uses the word "repent". Can we repent for 60 days and then go back to our old ways? Spurgeon would call this "the down grade."

Try Jesus

Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
I don't have the full context of what Warren meant by his comment of try Jesus for 60 days or your money back, but there is at least Biblical precedent for "trying Jesus" as quoted above. However, I'm not so sure about how he soft-steps the issue of Jesus being the one and only way. I think Warren believes in the one and only way through Jesus, but he is very non-confrontational in the way he said it. Is that what they need to hear? Would being dogmatic about it instead push others away instead of allowing them time to think about their position and why they believe the way they do? I don't know the details of this particular event, so I pass no judgement at this time.
1 Corinthians 9:20-22
[20] And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
[21] To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
[22] To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

That's why I don't go to "church"

Every time I see a high-profile pastor/minister on a national talk show, I cringe. Warren on Hannity & Colmes was no exception. IMO, God gave him a national platform to proclaim the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and like Joel Osteen, Ed Young Jr and others...he blew it. He couldn't even quote the entire verse of John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME!" Bereft of sound biblical doctrine and proper hermaneutical exegesis, these gifted people don't need to be behind the pulpit, they should go the route of John Maxwell, become motivational mavens in the secular circles, and leave dissemination of scripture to the theologians and apologists that can rightly divide the word of God.
In my arduous journey back to the monotheism of the cross after many years of theosophical practice and a belief in a syncretistic diety, my "church" experience over the past six years has been dreadfully disappointing. As an entrepreneur and former founder and CEO of a multi-million dollar company, I struggled to see the line of demarcation between growing a secular business, and growing a 501c3 church. Brick and mortar churches any more, are nothing more than "social glee clubs" with an emphasis on attracting more card-carrying, paying members. The "church" no longer drives the sovereign purpose and will of God, the world dictates the direction of the synagogues of satan we call "church." I refuse to attend a 501c3 church that claims to be a voice for God, when in fact they're sold out to the state and pay payroll taxes that are used to pay for abortion and other non-Godly government programs. They're nothing more than cleverly disguised, tax-free, money-making machines, that in some cases make the ousted Wall street whoremongers look like desciples of Mother Teresa.
Yes...I am a card-carrying member of church. I carry the card of Christ as a member of his sanctified, ekklesia. Semper Fi!

- He Gave Colmes An Easy Way Out...
| Posted On: 12/08/08 08:05:58 AM | | Age 51, GA | ...and causes maybe millions of watchers to stumble. Do you not see the problem with always trying to figure out a way to make Ricky W's goofy statements sound biblically correct? You defenders make it easier and easier for him to let his SELF-promoting diarreha of the mouth flow through the airwaves. I'd like to buy Rick Warren for what he's worth and sell him for what he THINKS he's worth! WWPD? (What would Paul do?) But, preaching repentance just doesn't sell books. - Do you have worship time with others?
| Posted On: 12/06/08 12:22:28 PM | | Age 40, NH | In order to not be disobedient to God's word, you must get together regularly with His children to worship and be instructed by the appointed elders (appointed by other elders). If you do that, you are obedient. If you aren't doing that, you are disobedient.
Although your thoughts on churches in general is a very broad brush that is quite inaccurate for much of the church but you are entitled to your opinion. Not all or even close to all act in such a way as you admit that you did.
Paul's lists of virtues and character qualities of Christians and Christian leaders (1 Timothy 3, Titus, Galatians, etc)include (but is not limited to) being temperate and gentle. Your accusation of all 501c3 churches and the leaders of those churches is untrue and false accusations are intemperate and quarrelsome.
Please consider the fact that you aer not correct about all 501c3 churches and your need of repenting of your sin of making false statements of others. All our journeys are long and arduous brother, one thing we need to do is remember that all are not the same sinners that we are although we are all sinners.
And by the way, Warren is correct if not not complete in his answer on Jesus being the expert. Of course his offer of a 60 day trial offer is cheesy and degrades the sacrifice of Jesus and the righteous grace of our Father.
Grace and Peace,

I don't think there was anything wrong with this, this time... I say that to say that in the past I definitely didn't agree with how Rick Warren handled presenting the gospel. But this time I could relate to him. I got saved hearing the gospel pure and unadulterated, but I told the Lord about 6 months into my walk, "I gave the world 24 years now I'll give you 24 years to prove yourself to me. Now I didn't know what I was saying but God met me where I was and it's been an incredible journey of 25 years with my Savior, he came through for me. I think Rev. Warren handled it very well and like Jesus did he left the questioner in a dilemma; 'What to do with what was presented'.
Rev. Billy Graham always presented the gospel so incredibly and clear, so Rev. Warren would benefit from studying how this man led so many to Christ, that after all is our goal; to save souls. I think Colmes will think about what happened, just like Larry King when the 'Chapman family' blew him away with their faith. After the interview when their daughter died he did a follow up report because it so affected him. No Rev. Warren's probably won't have the same affect, but I could relate to the way he shared and if you dig deeper perhaps you'll see this time he could reach a multitude with what he shared. We don't always have to offend to show the way to our Savior. Jesus is apparently using Rick Warren to draw Colmes to the knowledge of salvation. May it be soon.

- Tire-Kicker Gospel
| Posted On: 12/08/08 11:44:58 AM | | Age 51, GA | The whole "60 day trial basis" reminded me of a used car salesman pitch from the get-go. I used to sell cars. One of the biggest no-no's was to NEVER let a potential buyer take a car home overnight to see how he or she liked it. It is highly unlikely that you'll sell that car. By the time they bring it back they've found everything wrong and very little, if anything, right. Ricky is completely motivated, captivated, influenced, hood-winked, bank-rolled, hypnotized...by the whole self-potential (flesh worship) false doctrine. If Colmes "thinks" about anything, it WILL NOT be a blood-stained cross or an empty tomb. He will approach it and "think" about it in the same way it was offered to him. Mr. Warren sells a KIA with a Mercedes hood ornament. Paul warned us about "another Jesus". Rick Warren is a very dangerous man and is teaching listeners to open doors to demonic lies. Jesus is the Rock of offense and we're not going to find a way to Him that doesn't cramp our style...especially if our sin is our style. And Warren is considered to be "America's pastor"?! There is something deep about him but it's not his understanding of Gods precious Sacrifice. Click here to reply to this post

Personally, I'm tired of watching and waiting for the other shoe to fall. Life of late seems kinda like a movie where Christians are not participants, but observers watching for the latest barage of liberal stupidity ushering in the new world order. The batton of power has been passed but we need to take it back! How can we get back in the game? I'm geared up for a fight but unable to find a battle until I read about it. John
