Excellent Review!

The review of H.H.'s new book was not only a good cautionary guide for anyone who might want to read the book, but an excellent review in itself of proper principles of Biblical Interpretation. If Norm Geisler does not teach in a seminary or Bible School, he should! Perhaps the only thing left out was that anyone interpreting the Bible needs the help of the Holy Spirit, as He is the one Who inspired it in the first place, and Jesus promised that the Spirit would "lead us into all truth."

More Serious Problems: Bordering on Plagiarism
| Posted On: 11/21/08 01:34:48 AM |
Age 46, HI |
I find several things about Hanegraaf's work that "border on" plagiarism, to borrow a turn of phrase ["border on"] that Hank uses too often.
His book is titled "The Apocalypse Code"...while a 1997 book by Hal Lindsey is "Apocalypse Code". Plagiarism? At least it reveals lousy research. Given that Lindsey's pretrib, premillenial and literalist views communicated in his book are at odds with what Hanegraaf writes, you'd think he'd done a little more oppo research. Only the "the" article separates the two titles.
That's pretty bad. But there's more. In his daily infomercials for CRI products he uses the phrase "read the Bible for all its worth", frequently using "how" with it ["how to read the Bible for all its worth]. Many times each broadcast he does this.
I have had in my library for years an excellent volume by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart on exegesis and hermeneutics...entitled "How To Read the Bible for All Its Worth", published 1981. It's a classic, and I'll bet it was in the CRI collection before Walter Martin left the planet.
With either of these two items, it doesn't look very good for the academic integrity of Hank Hanegraaf. Since he appears to want to set himself up as the go-to man on doctrine and all things spiritual, it's somewhat disappointing that he, too, has feet of clay. I wonder what the antitype of that is.

THE WEEDS ARE GATHERED FIRST

Norm, as you say it is in scripture that we should look for Jesus and have the Holy Spirit show us the Truth. Matthew 13:37He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39and the enemy who sows them is the devil. THE HARVEST IS THE END OF THE AGE, and the harvesters are angels.-- If the harvest is the end of the age then Jesus Himself tells us that the followers of the Devil are gathered FIRST and not the followers of Jesus. Matthew 13: "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
29" 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30LET HEM BOTH GROW TOGETHER UNTIL THE HARVEST. At that time I will tell the harvesters: FIRST COLLECT THE WEEDS and tie them in bundles to be burned; THEN GATHER THE WHEAT and bring it into my barn.' "-- We can believe Jesus over the doctrines of man. The weeds are gathered FIRST and THEN THE WHEAT IS GATHERED. And they are BOTH GATHERED AT THE HARVEST, Which is the end of the age. -- Jesus Himself tells us that the saints are not raptured before the tribulation. But Jesus says LET THEM BOTH GROW TOGETHER UNTIL THE END OF THE AGE. Lou Newton

- Good article
| Posted On: 11/20/08 12:26:47 PM | | Age 46, AK | I agree with the exposure in this article
of biblical error. Scripture interprets Scripture and literal interpretation always
comes first. I also agree with the end time harvest gathering comments. Also read Job 14:10-14 which correlate with the Words of Jesus. One thing is true, you must understand the Old Testament to understand
the New Testament. So many who try to understand the book of Revelation and Last
Days events, fail to grasp what has been spoken in the Old Testament and even the books of the Prophets. When Jesus said that we would not know the day or hour but we would know the "season", He was talking to a Jewish audience who understood
that "season" referred to a Jewish Feast Day or appointed day of God. If you really
want to understand last days events according to Scripture I would suggest some
DVDs by Mark Blitz from El Shaddai Ministry called "Feasts of Israel".
Also this Hank has so missed the mark concering Israel, God's plans, promises and the very fact that we the Gentile Church are grafted into believers of Israel the natural branch through Christ thereby making one new man. The Church today did
not replace natural Israel in God's plans.
As far as the millennial reign, that is very black and white and even Zechariah tells us that all nations will be required to come to Jerusalem once a year to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles under Christ's reign.
We can't brush these things aside with the
premise that salvation doctrine is really all that matters and the rest is peripheral things. God included these things in His Word, Jesus spoke about them seriously and they are in the Bible and important for us to know and understand.
There are not different interpretations and truths on these matters, but one truth regarding the rapture, tribulation and millennial reign of Christ. You can cling
to the traditions of man and even church or you can seek God and get back in His Word and ask for revelation by His Spirit of what is really contained.

- JOB SPOKE THE WORDS OF JESUS LONG AGO
| Posted On: 11/21/08 12:44:51 PM | | Age 65, OH | Thank you for your very kind comment, Linda. Also thanks for the scripture in Job, I had never connected the two before. But if the scripture in Job is true, and Job is doing the speaking here, then the rapture can not be before the final judgment. Lou Click here to reply to this post

I appreciate this article. I have a lot of respect for Hank but disagree with "The Code." Because of the respect he has earned in taking Walter Martin's place with CRI, I feared that people might begin to question their position,if they were not well grounded. Thomas Ice and his co-author have done a very good refutation of Hank's book, as well. Also, a very interesting debate (on DVD) is available from Pre-Trib Rapture Center @ Liberty. Pastor Ron Pinkham
