Craziness...

It is unfortunate that every Christian in America cannot make this obvious observation that Rev. Peterson has so elegantly explained. If a white Christian calls out a black Christian, the white is a racist even though he is doing his biblical duty. In fact, it seems that if you are white and disagree with Obama, then you are racist. gosh, these are crazy times.

WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE LIKE YOU RUN FOR PRESIDENT?

Dear Mr. Peterson:
So...there are so many Godly black men in this country, so why did Barack Obama have to run for president? Why couldn't you be the one to run for president?
I know that Obama's supporters decided that those of us who didn't vote for him were racist. No, we are just people looking for a Godly man to run for the office of president, and one who loves this great country of ours, but instead Obama ran@@
he doesn't like America, he is anti-life, anti-christian, anti almost everything the rest of us here in middle America stand for and want in our leadership.
Oh well....

- the wheat and the tares
| Posted On: 11/17/08 09:08:06 AM | | Age 53, WI | This election is certainly exposing the tares among the wheat. For a "believer" to support the agenda of Obama, regardless of his race, is unthinkable. I am in utter amazement that so many "christians" could be so misguided and ignorant of the bible that they can't see the difference between right and wrong; righteousness and truth. They will stand before God and give an account for their actions. It's not about a political party. It's about righteousness. Click here to reply to this post

I find it funny that Peterson would suggest that other preachers are going to Hell because they support a Democrat. That is politically-driven religious egoism at its best. And seriously, the quote "they must drop their anger" is absolutely absurd. I find it completely obnoxious that anyone would think that whites can expect black people to forget everything we have ever done to them because we passed a few laws. Our country is still structured such that white people have the advantage....black people are angry for good reasons. I cannot believe that us white people think that everything is ok if we say "sorry, we will give you full legal privileges now", and think that we have done some amazingly noble and heroic thing. Black people will say "its about time for crying out loud". Our nation as a whole is completely unrepentant of its oppressive past, and i think that white people have major problems if we think that we can tell the oppressed to stop being angry at the oppressor when we are still stuck in superiority complex. -Dan Smith

- I remember being 22 and thinking I was right all the time
| Posted On: 11/17/08 11:51:53 AM | | Age 31, WI | Rev. Peterson did not say that democrat supporting preachers are going to hell - but rather that they are leading their congregations to hell - which he says is caused by preachers not having a real relationship with God - not because they support democrats. And the issue is not what party they voted for - it is the lack of morals and values displayed by that party. And who am I, as a white, low-income, single mother oppressing exactly? Please discover what is going on in the real world for yourself - rather than believing liberal academia that tries to make America look like a big bad bully. No one is being oppressed - exept maybe Christians. Click here to reply to this post
- Yet another victim of our self-defeating, self-loathing PC culture.
| Posted On: 11/17/08 09:38:19 AM | | Age 46, KY | To the guilt-ridden caucasian who can't let go of a quickly receding past, the real oppressors of the black people since the early 1970's have been their own "leaders". The Jesse Jacksons, the Al Sharptons and the Louis Farrakans are the ones who have oppressed African Americans the most since that time because it is through instilling disaffection, denial and self pity that they have been able to maintain their power base and they know it. As a descendent of the Mennonite/Amish community, I assure you my ancestors were not slave holders and were very likely also persecuted. However, rather than playing the victim, they had faith in God and took advantage of the opportunity to find a new start here in our great country. Jesse Lee Peterson is simply trying to instill a simliar attitude and perspective among the faithful of his community. Click here to reply to this post
- Maybe you have it wrong
| Posted On: 11/15/08 10:21:36 AM | | Age 31, IA | "...other preachers are going to Hell because they support a Democrat." That's not what he said and you know it. He said they're leading people to Hell by leading them away from Christ. As the previous poster said, Peterson has put himself out for ridicule, and you do a good job of ridiculing a man who doesn't agree with you. Maybe you are the racist. You're basically saying if a black person doesn't ditto everything Obama and Oprah (sp?) say, they aren't black enough and must be silenced. What about the people who voted for Keyes - does that make them racist? Or those who would rather listen to Bill "We have to start holding each other to a higher standard" Cosby than Bill "You need the government to take care of you" Clinton - does that make them racist? | Posted On: 11/15/08 05:30:25 AM | | Age 65, TN | Hi Dan,
May I respectfully say, that after reading your comments about Pastor Peterson's article, it appears you didn't really get his point.
You accuse him of "getting it all wrong" because he spoke out about the things that Obama stands for, which is virtually AGAINST everything that God represents.
Pastor Peterson isn't making a political statement, but one that is biblical/spiritual. Your stance seems to be political, and may I say, secular as well.
It is true that our country's history is more than a little tainted with what it has done to the black race, and I thank God that most of that is over. As far as getting over the anger, that not only is not a political statement, but one that Jesus made also.
Jesus, talking about the last days said that "false messiahs" would come on the scene and "lead many astray." That is happening currently. Jesus said in Luke 21:28, that when we see these signs (among the many others that are taking place) to look up and be watchful for our redemption is drawing near.
Further, Jesus talked about forgiveness in Matthew 6:14-15. In verse 15 he said that if you do NOT forgive OTHERS, God the Father CANNOT forgive YOU.
Dan, I urge, encourage and pray that you get into God's word so that you will know the true from the false.
The persecution our Lord talked about is on the very near horizon (as well as His return) and I thank God for people like Pastor Peterson who take the rightful stand for Christ.
God bless you Dan. Click here to reply to this post
- got it all right, actually
| Posted On: 11/15/08 02:29:27 AM | | Age 40, CA | It's a given that slavery was evil and the mistreatment that came(mostly) from the white man for years after was also morally wrong. However, that does NOT make electing a gentleman with dark skin tone to be President of the United States of America to be necessarily right. I do not see how that rights any wrongs. It does show that a majority of America is past the black/white divide. It'll be interesting to watch if Obama's policies help or hinder that progress. Those on the left, actually, encourage the black/white divide even though their language would betray that. It's a Christian's duty to vote for righteousness. And I do NOT see how voting for someone who supports abortion (even partial birth abortion) could justify that. Obama even supported a bill that would DENY medical help to a baby who survived the initial abortion!! Let the baby die on the operating table??!! What a horrible injustice! May it never be! Sir, you are right on. It is shame that both black and white so called Christians just do not get it.
Talk about false gods, and idols. What a mess. Many will find the truth, let's pray it is not after death they find it but before.

As usual Rev. Peterson is right on target.
As a white man born and raised in the south, be assured with me race is not the issue and there are several black men that I could have enthusiatically voted for. I'd love to see JC Watts run. The character of the man is what counts.
