too kind to Rick

Steve, Your criticism of Rick Warren is in the usual watered-down manner of other 'conservative evangelicals'. As if RW is a somewhat wayward pastor. Why not face it? He is a false teacher and a lost man, categorized under 2 Peter 2:1-3. Wouldn't the warning be more effective if you put that on the table?

I agree with you. Too many "preachers" representing Christianity are presenting a wrong Gospel and a wrong messege of who God is. We are living in the days of extreme apostasy. Thirty years ago I didn't even know what that meant much less that it would be so prevelant today. They need to be exposed for who they really are because the very souls of men and women are ending up in hell because of their lies. You can't be nice about it anymore. It's not the Christian thing to do to look the other way while these men are feeding lies to the masses. We not only have an obligation to expose them in a manner of love, but are also obligated to reveal them.

I wish you would give some specific examples. I used to respond to a 'far right' christian blogger on some of his pieces and he too became very frustrated with my (I felt)reasoned positions until he finally wrote to me "why don't you go get your own blog?". So this is certainly not a phenomenon restricted to one side. You have some examples, I could provide you with similar ones from the other viewpoint. Too much generalizing going on here.

Stand fast and keep pressing through - thank you Mr. Camp

Dear Mr. Camp and all who read this,
Thank you Mr. Camp for your choice to stand...to stand for God and what is right in God's word.
Bottom line is that we live in the last days folks and now it's time for us, especially the men, to step up to the plate and lead......lead our wives, our children, at work, in church and in our everday lives under God's direction.
We, the body of Christ, have always had this facination with "the end times" and Revelation, etc, etc. We've all been talking about it, but haven't been getting ready for it. Now it's on us just like the Word clearly expressed to us and warned us about.
We hear "freedom isn't free".......well guess what? Our salvation that came from Christ is not free either. Yes, Jesus freely gave Himself up to pay our price and we freely choose to accept it or not accept it. But, those of us who call ourselves "Believers" don't just get to pick and choose what we want to do for the Lord. We don't just get to come and go as we please anymore and being accountable to no one because we're in the I'm saved and going to Heaven club.
This is an all or nothing deal folks. Christ paid our debt and we owe Christ big time......we owe Him our lives and our wills. The word says to deny yourself and pick up your cross to follow Him daily.......the key word here folks is SACRIFICE. This is such a bad word these days and strikes a negative chord within so many because sacrifice requires that you give something up.......namely what you want to do and doing what Christ wants us to do.
There are three books that will wake you up as to where you stand with the Lord and where you need to get to with the Lord.
John Bevere is the authour. The books:
Bait of Satan
Drawing Near
Driven by Eternity
Please read themin this order.
Remember.....stand and press through for the Lord.

Be encouraged - we are listening, and learning, and repenting (a lot of that!) and praying, and abiding, and trusting, and obeying - you and the brethren like you will never know our names or see our faces, but you've made an eternal impact on our lives. Lord, grant that we, too, may impact our own corners of the world.

I Agree Completely

Steve,
I agree completely with you! Even though I do not blog actively on my own blog, I do comment on one in particular that is politically oriented. I, and another brother, while trying to stand for the truth have faced withering criticism from both the world and those who call themselves "Christian" yet subscribe to very unbiblical worldviews. We have faced universalism from a man who calls himself a Christain minister, yet denies the exclusivity of the gospel. We have been cursed at and told that we are unintelligent dolts because we believe that there is such a thing as absolute truth and that truth is embodied in the words of The Bible.
Even with all this criticism, we carry on. God has reminded me on numerous occasions that the apostles were treated much more harshly than I. Foxes Book of Martyrs and By Their Blood are reminders of those who have paid the ultimate price for their faith and what I encounter is nothing compared to that. I remind myself constantly that these people are ultimately fighting God, not me.
Finally, I am not special. I am a flawed vessel, trying as best I can to communicate the truth. I am not qualified to be God's defense attorney; however, I am called to be faithful to Him and to be a light in a dark world. I praise God for those, like you, who have prominent positions in the church and are willing to stand the way you do. Keep being strong examples for the rest of us.

Enjoyed the article by the cream puff, steve. The reason people can't see whats happening around them is because they have no clue what the bible says. We are seeing before us the formation of the last days church thats going into full-blown apostacy.Let me give a quick example. eli's son went down to get the ark in 1Samuel 4. the people thought by just having the ark was going to win the battle but what they didn't realize that what was in the ark had departed. I belive that Ichabod has been written on the church. Most so called beleivers don't have a clue what the word of God says. Just like Israel, the church does not have a clue what the bible says. While men slept the enemy crept in unawares!

Steve, great article, and unfortunately it is a sorry summary of society today. I can't speak for the young bloggers or the heavy hitters like Warren/Osteen, but I can speak for the wimpy actions of common lay men who are bible study leaders, deacons, etc. in the local church. This is going to sound really bad, but in some cases, men today are squashed down, wimpy, effeminate, and afraid to speak up because they are afraid of what their wives will do or say. Women say they want their husbands to step up and be leaders, but often times they will only follow when their husbands are leading in the direction that they already want to go. A man will choose his words and actions carefully if he knows he will have to deal with nagging, criticism, no sex for months (or longer), and disrespect at home. I know this is probably off-topic, and I know this will not sit well, but it is unfortunately true in many cases.

Politicians at church

What is up with getting politicians to speak at church? I can't understand the reasoning for this; politicians are not preachers, and ought to be at church to listen to the preacher - not garner votes. It's not Rick Warren that does it either, but also many of the guys who bloggers at this side support. Please let the preachers preach, the politicians politik, and the Priesthood of All Believers priest. This getting of politicians to speak at your church is ridiculous : NONE of the apostles were politicians. Popes were, however. (not saying we can't have Christian politicians, but if he quits politics and goes into preaching that's fine.)
