Would America then still be under British rule?

RE: Pauline "strategery" - As I agree with your excellent premise, perhaps one should also consider not only what Jesus said as recorded in John 3:16, but also what He said in the same breath through verse 21. Now, were Paine, Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Franklin, Rev. Jonas Clark, Rev. John Peter Muhlenberg, Rev. Nathaniel Whitaker, etc. etc. wrong to confront tyranny? Yes, it is our call to first and foremost preach the Gospel of the "Kingdom of God," yet it comes with "reproving the world of sin, ...reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" as Salt and Light dictates. "See that no one will take you captive through philosophy and empty deceit according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Messiah..." Colossians 2:8 (Power New Testament) "If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at the moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battle front besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point." Martin Luther --- With any battle worth fighting, there comes suffering and sacrifice - a price to pay for our cherished freedom. The Founding Fathers of this nation, in another fight for freedom from tyranny, signed their names to the Declaration of Independence just below these words of commitment: "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." --- "In the end we will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends." Martin Luther King Jr. --- "Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer." Thomas Paine (Common Sense, 1776) Reference: Thomas Paine: Collected Writings , Foner ed., Library of America (6)

- WHAT IS GOD ASKING YOU TO DO RIGHT NOW
| Posted On: 05/22/08 09:49:54 AM | | Age 64, OH | Great post dear friend; "If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at the moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battle front besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point." Martin Luther - I have read this before and thought it was brilliant. If we are very active "in the service" of the Lord Jesus and do all kinds of things that The Holy Spirit of the Lord Jesus is NOT asking us to do, it is probably because we do NOT want to do what He IS asking us to do at that very moment. Christians will use the scriptures to justify themselves, and say,"the scriptures tell us to do this or that". So they do what they say they see in the scriptures. But then they do NOT DO what is also in the scriptures and The Holy Spirit is asking them to do right at that moment. This is disobedience, and is failing God, and is sin. The only important thing to do, is what the Holy Spirit is asking you to do right at this moment. Of course the Holy Spirit will always be in line with what He has said in the Holy Scriptures. Preach necessity of SUFFERING

Steve: While I agree with your article I think it is lacking for today's church. The church today knows about Christ, hears the Word, and is aware of the Gospel, however; we have forgotten that a great part of Christian living is conviction and repentance. We Americans have shunned suffering and dying to self as for the weak of faith, the new convert, and the great sinner. The truth is that a true Christian doesn't live in a perpetual state of blessing but in suffering. Only in suffering is love perfected. Only in suffering can we embrase Christ's rightousness and will. Only in suffering can we truly say "not my will, but THY will be done." The proof of the necessity of suffering is that America is starting to feel the birth pangs and woe to we who do not repent. John

- JESUS LEARNED OBEDIENCE BY SUFFERING
| Posted On: 05/22/08 08:47:31 AM | | Age 64, OH | John; the scriptures say that Jesus learned obedience by the things He suffered. If Jesus had to learn obedience by suffering, how much more must we suffer to learn obedience. Is it not our hearts desire to be obedient to the Lord Jesus Christ; then it should be our hearts desire to suffer for Him. Our flesh resist this desire of course, but deep in our heart we desire to suffer to become like the One who shed His blood for us. Lou Click here to reply to this post
- Your Post Confronts my flesh, Thanks
| Posted On: 05/27/08 05:48:23 PM | | Age 34, CO | Brother Lou I find myself very challenged by your post on the necessity of suffering. I find that I have shunned it from my life which means my flesh has been having victory. Although I'm fearful to pray this prayer, I will pray it with the faith that The Holy Spirit will provide the courage needed.
Lord, make us more like Jesus, who was obedient and willing to suffer. Give us courage when sharing in Christ's sufferings. I repent from being reluctant to participate in ALL you have appointed for me and only receiving the blessings. Bring glory to your name through my life as you see fit in your infinite wisdom, whatever that may entail.
Brother Lou, thanks for speaking to my spirit and challenging me. Be richly blessed. Click here to reply to this post
- THE GREATEST THING A MAN CAN DO
| Posted On: 05/28/08 03:12:48 PM | | Age 64, OH | Dear brother; you have have just made my whole year of posting worthwhile. For all heaven is rejoicing at your prayer. Peter always wanted to die for Jesus. He was always saying "I will die for you". But in the flesh Peter was not able. Peter denied Jesus instead. But look in John Chapter 21 after Jesus breathed on Peter in Ch 20 and said "receive the Holy Spirit". Jesus told Peter in ch 21 that he (Peter)would die for Him (Jesus), Jesus gave Peter the desire of his heart. It was not the desire of Peter's flesh, but it was the desire of his heart. The disciples often are quoted as saying "let us go with Him that we may die with Him". When we pick up our cross and follow Jesus we come to know Him more and more. When I go through suffering, I am often brought to a sudden awareness and say " Jesus is that what is was like". Jesus said, "The greatest thing a man can do is to die for his friend" lounewton1347@yahoo.com Click here to reply to this post
- Indeed
| Posted On: 05/28/08 09:51:53 AM | | Age 47, MO | Lou is good at getting to the meat and potatoes of an issue. The reality for a Christian is that a Christian life is death to self and alive to Christ. We know the two greatest commands are: "To love God with ALL our heart, soul, mind, and strength," but we gloss over the word ALL. If we gave ALL then it is not of our will, but His will. Our will is never enough to earn heaven so the second command of "Love your neighbor as yourself," is simply to witness the necessity of total faith in Christ. It is not a relationship building endeaver to discover the riches and blessings of a religious life. Bless God, John Click here to reply to this post
- sad but true
| Posted On: 05/23/08 09:43:40 AM | | Age 47, MO | Yes Lou, and in America we raise spoiled children in an instant gratification culture who know nothing about work, sacrifice, deep thought, real love, truth, and dedication. Many live in a drug induced reality of games, music, pride, ego, self gratification, and hyper speed destruction to an untimely death. If self is against Christ, America produces and encourages self as king. Indeed, the American dream today is to live hard and die eternally. John Click here to reply to this post
