Why did Jefferson violate the "separation" clause attributed and mistakenly interpreted by secular humanists? See http://www.earstohear.net/Separation/thebiglie.html#JeffersonsViolation

we need to face reality

we need to face up to the reality that this is not a Christian nation. there are good Christian people in it though, and george is absolutely correct that no Christian should pledge their allegiance to any country or flag. Our allegiance should be to one king (Christ) and one kingdom (the kingdom of God). to do anything else is idolatry. furthermore, our money may at the moment say in God we trust, but our economy reeks of the seven deadly sins (lust, greed, gluttony, etc.). finally, to allow the title "Christian nation" to stand is to enable foreigners (Buddhists, Muslims, etc.) to look at this country and say, "that...that's a Christian nation. look at their greed and lust and licentiousness. if that is a Christian nation I want nothing to do with Christianity." We need to let go, take a step back, and remember what Christ has called us to. so many Christians are out there fighting to protect their "rights," but what they are failing to grasp is they have no personal rights - we were bought with a price. we are under the ownership and discipleship of Christ who has asked us to turn the other cheek and to love and serve our enemies. as we get involved in these legal and political battles i think we show the world the wrong vision of what Christianity is to be. it is to be radical and unequivocal love poured out on all people, especially those that fight against us. I leave off with two quotes. First, in the Gospel of Matthew Jesus states that “"You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile.” More and more often Christians are being sued these days, yet are we letting the kingdom shine through by relinquishing our rights as Christ has asked us and giving even more than is asked from us? Or are we fighting back and looking just like the kingdom of the world? Second, is a quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s, The Cost of Discipleship. In it he states that, “the right way to requite evil, according to Jesus, is not to resist it. This saying of Christ removes the Church from the sphere of politics and law. The Church is not to be a national community like the old Israel, but a community of believers without political or national ties. The old Israel had been both...but with the Church it is different: it has abandoned political and national status, and therefore it must patiently endure aggression.” I believe this is the church’s calling. Just as they went to the death in the first century, today as we are accosted by the liberal agenda we must patiently endure while showing nothing – I repeat – nothing but Christ-like love for our enemies. As Christ humbled himself to death on the cross for humanity (who was at enmity with him), so should we do for our enemies.

Worthless debate

Christians should not be pledging allegiance to ANY flag or nation, whether under God or not. "Trusting in God" printed on our currency or coins will not make that "money" any more valuable than what is in the heart of the beholder. We can certainly not trust God and the money at the same time. George Cancilla

  1. Acknowledging God not valuable?

Come off it George, are you saying it wouldn't matter to you if the acknowledgment of God was removed from our money? Are you glad the acknowledgement of God has been removed from our schools and other governmental institutions? You know that it does matter. So quit trying to play the devil's advocate all the time, he doesn't need the help. Porter +++

    1. Acknowledge God

If we as a nation have "in God we trust" printed on our money, and do not have "in God we trust" imbedded in our hearts, then we mock God. I'm not suggesting we remove the motto from the money, but to embrace it as a nation. Saying things don't necessarily make them so. I am/was vehemently opposed to removing God from the public schools, but I had been realistic enough to home school my children. I would like to see each State mandate one period of public school each day devoted to Bible study. Atheists or those who wish to instruct their children in some other theology, should have the right to do so privately and at their own expense. As far as I am concerned, the Constitution was meant to be interpreted according to natural law (God's law), and not political law or contract law. A majority cannot trump God's law. George Cancilla

George, you are correct in saying that "a majority can not trump God's laws"; what did Johnathan say, "The Lord Plus one is a majority". Lou
