They said Jesus Thursday night

I did not watch the Idol Gives back show, well I did in 4X on the DVR, but did not see this at the end. I did see them do this Thursday night and was shocked that they included this in their show. I am pretty sure they said Jesus last night (Thursday). Without Jesus it does make it a rather ambiguous song that I am sure Oprah loved. All we can hope for is that someone will now go out and get the original version on CD and hear the praise to the One True God. God uses many people to spread His Word, even a very paganistic show like Idol.

Silence of the Lambs

I absolutely agree with you. Daily, we are under more and more pressure to "cower" instead of boldly proclaiming the name of Jesus in the marketplace. I am thankful for Daniel and Shadrack, Meshack, and Abindego! They are certainly our examples in times like these. Others are facing the same pressures they did around the world and are actually being persecuted for their boldness and some are even dying! Which ones of us will be willing in this country to stand up and proclaim His name. I have disliked silent prayer since the day it started in this country. It was the beginning of the "Silence of the Lambs." Hidiously desceptive!

I believe I heard "Jesus, my Savior..." on the second night of American Idol. We must compliment American Idol for correcting this error. I heard only the 2nd version and was thrilled to hear the song on mainstream television network and program.

Sad...but true

This is such a sad reality...that Jesus Christ is not acknowledged in a country that was founded for His glory! I am a patriotic young woman, who loves her country, and it breaks my heart to see people flagrantly disregarding the principles that America was founded upon.
But is it not incredible that the attitude towards the name of Jesus has not changed, even from the New Testament times! That is what strikes me as the most interesting fact...
As America spirals toward her complete and utter downfall, I can only say, "Come, Lord Jesus!"

I am no defender of American Idol, BUT this is the 2nd time through the song. They did sing, "My Jesus, my Savior..." at the beginning.
I agree that the name of Jesus is very important, and that there is much to criticize about American Idol, but give credit where credit is due. They DID say "Jesus"... In fact, my jaw hit the floor when I heard it!

Discerning post could have done without Mars Hill swipe...

Great post regarding Idol's rendition of "Shout to the...insert a god in your own image here". Not sure if Steve Camp listens reguarly to the Mars Hill podcast, but I listen nearly every week to Driscoll. Sure the dude has his flaws, but God is clearly using him in a powerful way. He does not shy away from doctrine. Matter of fact, he clearly articulates historical reformed doctrines better than most pastors I've heard in my entire life(save John Piper, R. C. Sproul, C. J. Mahaney, Matt Chandler). I encourage to avoid dragging a brother (who admits he's a sinner) down to the level of Ben Stiller's senseless vulgarity at the end of the Idol video.
Pure speculation, but Idol producers probably used Stiller's comments to willingly submit to some sort of "fairness doctrine" given the previous performance. Idol blended nicely into our pluralistic post-modern cultural mood.

So Sad

It's so sad that we live in a culture where the name of Jesus is considered offensive when it is used in its proper context.

While they did not say My Jesus, My Saviour in the broadcast version, they did on the download version that they sold on iTunes version to raise money.........

I had Tivo'd the show and the end did not get taped, so I missed this part of the show. Thursday night, they again did the song, but unless I am mistaken, they did it with the correct words. I wonder if they received negitive feedback from Wednesdays performance?

Changed Lyrics Back

They sang it again Thursday night but corrected the lyrics. "My Jesus" were the first words sung. I wish they would have sung it correctly for the huge audience on Wednesday.
Did we really need the Mars Hill jab?
