The Right to Learn

It should be obvious that a child'r right to learn is his/her most basic and important. Denial of this right as a child becomes denial of the right of choice by the adult that child becomes. Without valid choice the opportunity to contribute to self, family and society vanishes. Among other consequences, the child whose spectrum of learning is limited is denied the opportunity to decide his life paths for himself; all he knows about a path chosen for him, as advocated and reflected in the several 'home-school' comments, is that that was the choice of his parents. Without more general and basic knowledge he has no way to decide whether it should be his choice. One can make a valid agrument that a parent who denies a child the right to learn is as guilty of neglect as the parent who denies him the warmth of clothes or the nourishment of good food.

Is teaching the real "bill" all that's needed to see the counterfeit?

Age 45, GA |
I home school my kids and believe that teaching the truth from the bible will equip them to see the counterfeits. I often would share the story that to teach a teller how to detect a counterfeit bill you train the bank employee how to know the real thing, not try to teach them how to detect all the counterfeits. Over the last 4-5 years I've come to rethink my thoughts. I've met too many christians who really depend too much on their pastors and best selling books and not enough on their bibles. As other world views have been naively invited into the church every biblical doctrine of the church is under attack. I'm thankful for stumbling onto this website. Too many children are getting a strong dose of other world views and milky training in the christian faith. Christian adults can't even stand up to the attacks. At a time, when these kids are starting to question the world around them and how they are going to fit into it, we give them milk and not meat. Our children get little disjointed bible stories that sound as make believe as any Walt Disney or fantasy story out there. Our teens at churches are getting concerts and games, feel good mission trips, pep rallies and wimpy object lessons. This is the season when they question their faith and if it's real. Many areas of their lives are telling them that you aren't smart if you think there is a God. And we neglect to equip them with the answers, evidence, and logical thinking skills that can be used to strengthen their faith. By our inaction we look like the christian faith is thoughtless and naive. Then again, those that are training them have been trained in the latest gimicks and marketing ploys and not how to train a spiritual army of effective disciples. They themselves have bought into the many world views out there. So many churches are now a blend of those very world views that attack biblical truth. The church institution can't even agree on what is the "real" truth. Therefore, we fail to detect the false doctrine. Now, I'm working hard to teach the false doctrines (counterfeit bills) to my children, so they can see the thief in the night before he's invited in. But I feel very much alone in doing this. This may sound strange, but I've started thinking that the church environment is not a safe place for my children. They still need to know what the real thing looks like and it's getting harder to find a living example of it. I hope your ministry can make an impact before its too late. I've not fallen asleep on my watch, but I have many christian friends who have. In fact, I'm not sure if they aren't wolves and goats covered by wool blankets, not the blood of Christ.
Lamenting mom who would welcome help in training up her children in the ways of the Lord, but has learned to expect very little real help from the church. P.S. For those parents who have started feeling convicted to train their children in biblical truths I encourage you to do so. I had no background or upbringing to help me, but a strong conviction to obey my King to bring him all the glory. So I just started reading the bible and filling in as we went from the things I have learned. Don't water it down, you might be surprised to find the power of the scripture in your children's hearts. My seven and nine year olds can explain to you the difference between justification and sanctification. Even my 5 year old can explain his salvation in his own words and can look in his bible for the verses we are looking up. They can recite the order of all the books of the bible most times. We learned that early so they can learn to find things in the bible themselves. I don't share this to toot my own horn, I just want parents to know that with faithfulness and use of the "real" thing God's given the glory but our family is blessed by it. I don't need any more evidence than that.

Being in the world, but not of it has never changed.

I have four children that from home I biblically train and prepare for this world. We school from home so I can have the time to to do that. It has been very hard financially- We have one income and I have seen prices rise because two income people can pay higher prices. It has been hard socially- my extended family which is a mix up of world views have been not been supportive and at times mock what we are doing. However, nothing caught me off guard more than when I was misunderstood and mistreated at a good-size baptist church for attending a girl's bible study with my teen daughter. We were new to the church. Even though I have never been a proponent of the latest ideas of the youth group culture-(the fruits or lack of it have been evident for years). I still felt a girl's bible study would be a beneficial way to meet some of the girls. My daughter is shy. She asked if I'd go with her. NOTE: She wanted me to come with her. She's grown up studying the bible and receiving her training from her mother. I also wanted to get an opportunity to check out the group and message to make sure it stuck to the truths. I help my children guard their minds and hearts. I was very cautious not to talk too much, but also concerned if I didn't it would make the girls feel like I was spying. Not only was the young leader (pastor's daughter) uncomfortable, but the girls as well. How sad to be uncomfortable around a parent! Does no one read or value Titus? Then I was told a parent complained and didn't feel it was a place for a parent. The church leadership took the side of the parent and girls. It was very hurtful and sad. I would love to find a church that looks to build up the family, proclaim God's truths, not what message is needed to get a lot of people through the doors to keep the huge 'campus' paid for. I would love to find a church body that convicts and equips the parents to train their children and support those efforts instead of trying to be the social program substituting the parents duties and obligations. I'd love to be a partner with a church while working out our sanctification, but alas, I don't think it is out there. At least not in our area. For now, we've come home to worship. That's never anything I'd thought we'd do after 20 years of church involvement. Despit all of the above...I'd have it no other way! I have seen the fruits in my home while watching the effect of the bombardment of anti-God world views disease our country and be invited in by our churches. Every one of my children are saved, they know what salvation is and claim Jesus as their savior AND king. My oldest is taking this sites world view course as one of her graduation requirements. I can't wait for the church to get it's act together. But, I don't see it happening.

JESUS IS OUR ONLY HOPE

When the Lord Jesus returns he will have victory. But look in The Revelation at this that happens first: Rev 13:5The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. 6He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. 7HE WAS GIVEN POWER TO MAKE WAR AGAINST THE SAINTS AND TO CONQUER THEM. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world - CERTAINLY WE HAVE NO HOPE EXCEPT FOR THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. WHEN THE POWER OF THE HOLY PEOPLE HAS FINNALLY BEEN BROKEN
| Posted On: 03/06/08 07:55:52 AM |
Age 64, OH |
Yes God will have victory in the end when Jesus returns. But look at what God says in the Book of Daniel about what will happen first. 1 "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise [a] will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge."
5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank. 6 One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?"
7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, "It will be for a time, times and half a time. WHEN THE POWER OF THE HOLY PEOPLE HAS FINALLY BEEN BROKEN, all these things will be completed." Lou

And the Winner is...?

This article is an accurate assessment of how humanism (ergo Communism) has progressively trumped Christianity. I certainly agree that education and politics are two areas where Christians have been defeated. I suggest that one major reason for this defeat comes from the unbeliever's brandishment of "judge not lest ye be judged." Christians understand that none are without sin, but are none the less called toa be discerning of evil, not only for themselves, but for others as well. Homeschooling has been an option for many years, but many Christians have not wanted to sacrifice their time or income to accomodate a healthier Biblical climate for their children. When God was prohibited in the public schools, I don't see how Christians could have an option any longer. Most of the denominational church groups in the U.S. traded to opt out of politics for 501c3 tax exempt status. It is true that the pulpit should be primarily a place for the expository teaching of God's Word; but this teaching could be made relevant to current affairs. Dialogue to consensus is no longer confined to humanistic endeavors. It is now often incorporated in the denominational church groups. The relativism of political law may be the current paradigm, but God's absolute law will triumph in the end. George Cancilla

- Perfect Storm brewing
| Posted On: 03/06/08 12:04:41 PM | | Age 47, MO | Ah yes, the 11th and 12th commandments: "Thou shalt not judge" and "Thou shalt become all things to all people". If truth is found in Christ then obviously the problem is not the way, the truth, and the life. The problem is we Christians who profess the truth...sort of. Pastors are not leading and Christians are not living what we profess. Because of this it is becoming more difficult to profess faith in public without being stoned. A perfect storm for true believers. John Click here to reply to this post
- The truth and the life...
| Posted On: 03/06/08 06:33:19 PM | | Age 55, MO | John from Missouri nailed it. I really feel
for us all (professing Christians) I feel as it
was in Germany eighty or better years ago with
the Jews and now here just as then we as Christians along with the Jewish people will (I
believe) will see persecution before our Lord
calls us home.
