Unbelievable!
Posted On: 10/21/08 05:09:35 PM Age 41, CA
In regards to the absolute false doctrine of the original sin, how can anyone possibly attribute their sin to God? God does not have to give us a sin nature for us to sin, we do that all on our own. There is no mention that Lucifer had a sin nature given to him by God, there is no mention of a sin nature given to either Adam, or Eve, in scripture. You must filter scripture from the Total Depravity or Calvanist point of view in order to come to any conclusion ever remotely resembling original sin. So at least be willing to say that each person should study the doctrine before they believe it, instead of acting like it's God breathed inspiration and direction.

I saw in a newspaper clipping that Dr Robert H Schuller would be speaking at an event in Wichita, Kansas on April 23rd, 2008. He will appear with other speakers (George Foreman, Tom Hopkins & Zig Ziglar) For the life of me, I thought they would appear at the Kansas Colliseum but am unable to confirm that date. Will he speak here on that date? Thank you & may God Bless. Please E-mail me for any confirmation.

This is an all encompassing subject, and it can never be completely delineated with mere comments. However, the Bible is very explicit in concisely stating that NO ONE can change one jot or tittle of its truth deliberately and bear good fruits. Schuller, as well as thousands of other "New Age Christians" out there are eagerly complicit in this dissemination of the anathema to which Paul and God emphatically refer and detest. I, as an instructor of history in college, know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the truth of the Word, raima, which gives utterance to the truth of the Word, logos, is absolute truth. Over 10,000 prophecies have literally come true just as the prophets propohesied they would. Many of those end time prophecies refer to the great "Falling Away" which we are currently witnessing. PLEASE come quickly LORD JESUS!

Focus on self- or Focus on Christ
Posted On: 02/27/08 09:49:54 PM Age 42, FL
I've been a born again Christian only for 10 years, and I have made plenty of mistakes since then. I suppose if I paid more attention to Mr. Schuller, he would say that I haven't felt good enough about myself yet, and that is my only sin problem. I may not be the brightest bulb in the lamp, but I was always had the idea that our being born again meant being a new life in Christ- that through the work of the Holy Spirit, which will be a continuous work until we reach heaven, we will become more like Christ. That we are to keep our eyes and focus on Him (as with Peter wanting to walk on water- but taking his eyes off Jesus began to sink) to throw off ourselves and put on Jesus. Am I wrong in believing this? If so- I'd still rather believe the Word of God, than the empty promises of men like Mr. Schuller and the emergent church. It makes me sad that so many new in the faith, and maybe even plenty of seasoned Christians are being led down a wide path that leads to death- not to Jesus- the ONLY way, the truth and the life.

Your post is very encouraging to me. Thank you. As long as we regard the bible as the authoratative Word of God, we can avoid the error that seems to creep in.

I agree that the Bible is The Book and no other book compares to it. Every letter of the Holy Scriptures are inspired by The Holy Spirit of The Lord Jesus Christ. But as to what The Book says about The Word of God: The Book never calls itself The Word of God and Jesus Himself who Is the Word of God calls The Book The Holy Scriptures. We are to worship only The Creator and no the creation, and The Book is part of the creation that is created by The Creator, The Word of God. Lou

This reads somewhat like Oprah (not a personal attach she proclaims it) and her new age belief. Maybe a little different in that Oprah and other new agers consider themselves as God. But if you really just see yourself as self sufficient and purely feeling good about oneself, pretty close to feeling. you are Go I'm certainly not happy with the road that some are taking. Yes, it is broad and many who take it.

Do these leaders read the bible?
Posted On: 02/27/08 07:30:05 PM Age 41, CANADA
What I find amazing when I read articles like this about the likes of Schuller, Warren et al; is it is SO obvious they are deceived! How can they NOT see what they are preaching is false? Don;t they read their bibles? If so, what bible are they reading? I can't believe my eyes sometimes (or ears) when i hear these things! Jesus come quickly!

  1. God sends them a powerful delusion

I too wonder how they are unable to see the lies that they preach/teash. The Bible gives us the answer. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Gary: I see your point and agree that Schuller is up to no good. However, to dismerch Gary Smalley, Chuck Colson, Kay Warren, John Ortberg, Nancy Ortberg, Lee Strobel and George Barna by association is not "kosher". Perhaps they were there to add salt to the otherwise tasteless stew. Perhaps they entered the lions den to wrestle with the lion. Perhaps they followed Christ's example and taught in the synogog's of Satan. Do you have proof otherwise? I tire of these alligations against the other members of the body who don't smell the same as we do. Especially when we forget our location is under the tunic. John

Perhaps the writer meant "besmirch," meaning to sully or dirty someone's reputation. I suspect so. Gilley, however, does no such thing. I read no criticism, implied or otherwise, in his words re: the Re-Think Conference. He simply tells us who has accepted the invitation to participate, and perhaps hints that the net was spread pretty widely in casting the invitations. I have no idea what these folks' motives were in being part of this conference. Perhpas they will do some good. They do, however, lend credence to the philosophy behind it, a philosophy that oozes from the pores of Shuler, and is correctly identified in Gilley's posting. In my mind, Shuler is one of the most dangerous pseudo-evangelicals in the world today. His doctrine is pure apostacy, and those who accept his invitations to "come...and reason together" will be causght up in his duplicity. Jesus often associated with the publicans and sinners, but it would be hard to imagine Gary Smalley delivering the Matthew 23 message to the "scribes, Pharisees, hypocrites." There will be no such rebuke at the "Re-Think" Conference, but ther should be!

      Posted On: 02/28/08 03:04:40 PMAge 47, MO
I don't disagree with what you say, but again we are assuming and making judgement calls based upon what is "hard to imagine". What is harder to imagine is that Christian liberty has gone out the window as Christians engage in group think and follow the sway of the self appointed watch dogs, instead of the leading of the HS. I again ask: What have Gary Smalley, Chuck Colson, Kay Warren, John Ortberg, Nancy Ortberg, Lee Strobel and George Barna said contracy to Scripture? Where's the proof of their error? (I don't doubt there is error: but it is not Christian to assume it.) How is assuming someone's guilt any more Christian than the guilt they supposedly have? If we are guilty by association you better stay in Church- not any church, only those approved by the ankle biters. Read Colossians about Christian liberty. Thanks for being my online dictionary. I agree with you age 63 Fl, Gilley did not besimrch, however if they accept the invite and do not give a verbal bold rebuke when given an opportunity to speak, they besmirch themselves, I pray for their boldness and willingness to recieve the grace to suffer for the reviling and persecution that will surley come if they do so.

I could not agree with you more, it remains to be seen if they have been besmirched, if they go to the conference and do not boldy procaim the apostosy of Schuler while speaking they besmirch themselves. I wonder if they are bold enough and are willing to suffer the reviling and persecution that would come from such and act. We shall see. Their actions and words at this conference will shout out who they are aligned with, Jesus or Schuller.

Elect fallen away if possible
Posted On: 02/27/08 02:13:26 PM Age 42, SD
2 Timothy 1:8 portrays true believers "Do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destsroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Chhisr Jesus." Now for the other false teachers such as Schuller- 2 Timothy 3 1-9 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud,(i.e., accepting yourself and building self-esteem)abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treatcherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure than lovers of God-having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, (i.e, pleading for money through the TV) who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. (i.e., these false prophets are always learning and writing, but apart from God's true Word) Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the trugh-men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone." Hopefully this sight will expose their folly to many, and true beleivers stop listening to them, and call on them, in the view of God's mercy and grace to turn from their heresy before Jesus returns again to say to them, "Depart from me you workers of iniquity, for I never knew you.

The Bible tells us that even the very elect will be decieved. This emergent church sounds like the beginning of the "anti"-Christ reign to me. Everyone involved in the emergent church are his puppets and are allowing themselves be decieved because their ears are being tickled and they are being told what they want to hear. For some strange reason, they do not want to follow the truth and are overcome by lies and the father of lies.

Matthew 24:24, "For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible." "...if that were possible." Jesus is saying that the deceit will be so great that if it weren't for the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit in us, even we, the elect would be fooled.

Robert Schuller--Mr. Heresy
Posted On: 02/26/08 04:48:38 PM Age 61, MO
Robert Schuller doesn’t simply teach false doctrine once in awhile. He promotes THE false doctrine of man's glory. Indeed, his written works, and ministry, are totally defined by this false teaching; although we may not hear them on his Hour of Power. The bottom line of his teaching is: Man is not really guilty of anything except not loving himself enough. And so, the solution for man is not repentance of sin, and then salvation through death and resurrection in Christ. The solution is to be AFFIRMED: to have one’s self-esteem enhanced. George Cancilla
