There's a reason for emergent
Posted On: 02/24/08 11:04:15 AM Age 45, PA
The fertile ground for the emergent movement came from the Pastor led, dead traditional, ritualistic, sit down and shut up abomination that happens every Sunday that's called "Church". That thing is no more church, and the cowards in the pews are too afraid to say a word, because they may be seen as not a team player.......God forbid!!!! Yes, there is enough poison in the emergent to kill any half-hearted believer, but you can't blame any of them for looking for life! I sure isn't in the Sunday Club meeting!

Sure, there are many dead, lifeless churches in our midst. Yes, dangerous doctrines, such as liberalism and new age philosophy abound inside some churches. But to jump into the Emerging heresy sure doesn't help the matter does it? It seems to me that you are so disturbed by the state of the church that you see an openly heretical movement as better than ANY church setting. How can Emergent thinking and its overt and often egocentric redefinition of truth be a valid alternative? From what you said, it would appear that any pastor led church who may espouse doctrine is anathema in your estimation. Yes?

  2. True, but...

Ouch, I like pointed responses like this because there is more truth in your few words than in an eloquant response. I agree with your suggestion that the "church" rarely glorifies God, rarely builds the body with Christian liberty and HS obedience, but rather- like government- sustains the institution. Given this, people have indeed made a mass exodus from the traditional church. However, they threw the baby out with the bath water and forsaken the truth. Truly, they just wanted their ears tickled and not God glorified. The error is that the Emergent Church is a religion of self glorification. John

emergent experience
Posted On: 02/22/08 10:20:28 AM Age 36, OH
My family and myself sat through 3 years of emergent sermons feeling "HUNGRY" for truth but not really knowing what was going on with the sermons. Until one day God woke us up to the truth of the Emergent Church. The Emergent Church has no real "Core" or center of truth. It is empty and that is where it is leading all people that believe in the words of the Emergent Church. 2Peter 2vs18 says,"For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. vs19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity-for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. Holy Bible New Interenational Version. Our experience has awaken our souls and a fire began to burn deep within ourselves to live every moment for God. We now have a deep burning desire to live according to His Holy Word. I am greatful for our emergent experience. God has once again taking something evil and turned it for something Good for His Glory. Amen

emergence and the gospel
Posted On: 02/22/08 10:01:39 AM Age 32, TX
I think that Emergents are just like all other false religions.. they've come to believe that man has or can gain some righteousness (or enough righteousness to justify before God) on his own. The environmental, social gospel they proclaim is a gospel of works. This is a product of the modern gospel which most recently stems from the prosperity movement and the seeker sensitives. When you remove the truth of sin, righteousness, and judgment from the gospel in an attempt to please man and grow churches you produce a crop of false converts who believe they are saved, but have never been confronted with the biblical gospel. False converts are often the most bitter and angry opponents of the faith. What does this come from? It comes from a lack of understanding of law and grace. By law I mean God's law, his holy standard for righteousness. Have you kept it? If you've ever (in your entire life) lied, taken something that didn't belong to you, used God's name in vain, looked at a person with lust, disobeyed your parents, hated a person, wanted something that didn't belong to you, or not always put God first in your life, you've not kept the commandments. The Bible calls you a law-breaker and James says that one has has broken one of the commandments is guilty of all. The Bible says that God's wrath abides on the law-breakers and that a certain just judgment of hell is reserved for them. God in his mercy provided an atonement for law-breakers, in Christ, if you repent and trust in Him alone. The unregenerate heart won't understand nor be convicted by the word of God, they won't regard it as holy, immutable, and inerrant, and so there's no use arguing with people of false religions, they are lost, and they need to be saved first before we start talking about other issues with them. That includes the emergents when they don't clearly present their belief as faith in Christ and Christ alone. If it's a half-truth or truth is presented as non-absolute, then it's a lie. If they had faith in Him, they would acknowledge their great need for Him, because of their great sin against a holy and righteous God, whose wrath abides on them otherwise. It all comes back to a proper understanding of the law (I Timothy 1:8-11). God bless you Steve Camp, your music blessed me growing up and your blogs bless me now. Matt

"I'm more humble than you because you're wrong!", etc.
Posted On: 02/21/08 05:58:18 PM Age 26, TX
Some selected quotes... "...they still just keep on emotionally ranting about their postmodern world of pseudo-reformed, emerging faith." "...young, theologically immature, biblically untested, and who are undiscerning being "sympathetic to emerging cult of personality" types who get defensive at a moments notice." "I am aware that I can be a strong, intimidating opponent for someone to have to take on, on most issues." "If you get offended, it is intentional. I hope you even get angry; angry enough to honestly look at your promo-world of imagined faith..." "Until then, you will have to be satisfied with ministry that is foreign to the Bible, but oh how satisfying to your depravity." Some of the most arrogant things I've heard in a while...you're really going to win over a lot of those depraved emergent folks with these kinds of fundamentalist rants. Good luck.

I agree, the article seems to be missing, can someone explain this???

I am agreeing with the 2nd comment, the last paragraph of this message by Steve Camp challenges the reader to read an article that doesn't seem to be here. I hope someone will come back and clarify this.

Reformed
Posted On: 02/21/08 09:53:25 AM Age 54, GA
The Reformation was a reformation returning to Biblical doctrine. Reformed is reformed to the Scriptures. Movement away from scriptural orthodoxy is not reformation, it is deformation, otherwise known as heresy.

I'm not the brightest so am easily confused. In the last paragraph of your article you wrote: "may I challenge you to buck up today, play the man, and read the following article." Is there an article to follow? If so, I can't find the link. If your article is the article, then I'm further confused because it seemed like a lead up to something. Anyway, help me out. John

Thank you, Steve, for articulating this movement so well. Your article has really helped me to gain a better understanding of how these people tick. I hope, as you say, some will come to their senses. May it please God to remove the scales from their eyes.
