Action Plan

Of course, there are things we can do, individually and collectively. First, we can reverse our feelings and expressions of fear of individuals and groups different from us. Any of us over 50 or so remember our parents, teachers, everyone with whom we came in contact, talked about "the melting pot." It was among the proudest aspects of America and of being American. In a more formal angle along the same idea, we can beseech our representatives in government to quit being so antagonistic toward the rest of the world, and ask the leaders of any group to which we belong to desist from suggesting to those same representatives that the group wants them to be antagonistic. Returning America to its status as role model for nations and individuals by returning to our status of leader in knowledge, effort and status of the individual will not only open the route to our return to the good graces of foreigners and their governments but it will help us return to the good feelings we have historically had for ourselves. The immediate and most lasting thing we can do personally and nationally is to return to taking education and knowledge seriously, most specifically and emphatically we can stop fighting the scientific and engineering teaching, useages and research that made America the envy of all the world until Europe and Japan overtook us, and now Indonesia, China, India, Brazil and others have caught and passed us in many ways. These are all easily do-able individually. Getting leaders and advisors like this author to quit trying to scare us and antagonize others, including other religions, cultures and nations, may take more effort, but its potential reward is proportionately greater. Good Luck. America is counting on you.

Thank you, Chuck, for your article. You have truly put first things first and encouraged the rest of us to do the same. I read on this site recently an article that lamented the mean-spirit seen in some of the comments left on articles by Christians who weren't necessarily behaving like Christians. And I've read articles written recently on this site that lambast pro-family leaders in our country with, in my humble opinion, the same kind of mean spirit that the commentators are accused of having. Instead of getting all riled up about things we can do little about, you are right that we need to find out what purpose God has given us and get to it. Thank you again.

Walk with Jesus
Posted On: 02/06/08 04:54:47 PM Age 56, AUSTRALIA
Great article on the state of affairs in the US and impact on globalisation. Unfortunately misses the mark in the summary of what to do about it. If we are to walk with Jesus we would do the things that He did; heal the sick, raise the dead, set the captives free, preach the good news of Jesus to the lost. All that seems to be wrong with the church today is their focus on self improvement rather than facing the facts we were not called to be hearers only but doers. I urge those who want to be prepared for the coming onslaught to hear from the Lord Jesus as to what He wants them to do (My sheep hear My voice). Jesus came to serve and lay down His life for the whole world. Our calling is the same. Jesus would still be abused by the religious establishment for doing the will of the Father by ministering to gays, druggies, drunks, destitutes, prostitutes etc, etc. Time to arise church and do the things Jesus did before He returns and finds you wasting your time and energies on "good" things not God things. The milk of the Word is learning about it. The meat of the Word is doing it. Jesus said "My meat is to do the will of the Father who sent Me". Are we mature to do the same?

Chuck, you really summed it all up in one article. It's a bleak outlook for the USA. But, those of us who believe will persevere!(SP?) Thanks for your insite. I am going to print this out and pass it around to some of my friends and family. God bless you and what you do!

Wagon Trains and Sitting Ducks
Posted On: 02/06/08 06:23:59 AM Age 59, VA
We hear all this talk about a "City On A Hill", but in truth America is like a "Wagon Train Camped In The Valley." Americans have come to a place where they have nestled down into a place of comfort with their fatted cows, green, green, grass and river streams of refreshing. Having an abundance of all that they need, they want to know nothing about what is on the other side of the mountain and desire that nothing comes along to upset their own little plot of land, as if it were utopia. While basking in all that they have and the wonderful land that they have been given, they have forgotten what lurks beyond the mountain range nor do they even care. Yet her enemies see and are gathering high up on the ridge overhead. They look down and see her complacency. Woe, to America, who once looked beyond herself and her own needs. Woe to the preachers who tell her "peace and safety," "peace and safety" when such foreboding danger and darkness lurks overhead. Woe, to those who tickle her ears, the "pillow prophets" (as the bible calls them.) Woe, to those who are caught up in numbers, and prosperity and hyper-faith and self and who have forgotten to cup their hands and look up as they drink from the streams but rather stick their heads down without even noticing the enemy gathering on the horizon. Once a City on a Hill perhaps, America is now a Sitting Duck instead. Woe, to the virgins who do not have their lamps filled.
