Who needs Christ?

"It would be awkward to have to explain to her husband, family and friends that they’re bound for hell if they reject Christ."
A great post, although this one sentence makes me ask if this is the author's perspective or is it that of her female goat character? I pray it is the latter, as the Bible is very clear that humans are born in sin, destined for the wrath of God unless He draw them and redeem them. Those who fail to reject Christ are damned to the same hell as those who never heard about Him. THIS is why we who love the Lord MUST be obedient to His commands - and proclaim the gospel to dead creatures.
It is not legalism to exhort Christians to obey the Lord. It's legalism to tell people they can earn or keep God's favor by works.

WE SEEK JESUS

You are certainly correct our churches seem to be "filled" with these kind of people who profess to be Christians. This would include the pastors who are teaching them and making disciples of them. But they are disciples of the pastor and not of Jesus Christ. So why would anyone who seeks Jesus Christ go to one of these whitewashed tombs. a whitewashed tomb full of dead mens bones is not a pleasant place to be for anyone who has the Holy Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is why so many churches are empty of real Christians. The real Christians are not able to stand to be in a tomb of dead mens bones so go out to find another person or two to have fellowship with. For Jesus says in Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three come together IN MY NAME, there am I with them." It is The Lord Jesus Christ we seek and not just a religious service. Lou

Forgive me, then leave me alone

Far too many of us (Christians) want to take advantage of the blood of Christ, but then want nothing further to do with him. Give me forgiveness, then leave me alone while I practice "religion." One must wonder if that meets the requisite for salvation.

MEN OF GOD HAVE ALWAYS SEEMED TO WALK ALONE

I certainly agree that most Christians should seek to be around other Christians. And you are correct when you say there are no solitary Christians. Jesus has promised any person who has given their life to Him that He will always be with them. But even Abel's brother Cain did not trust God to save him as Abel did, and so Cain killed Abel. Noah certainly did not have any body of believers to depend on. Noah was alone on the whole earth and depended on God to save him and his trust was not in vain. Moses left all to be alone in the wilderness and met God there. David left the people of God to be alone in the wilderness and the true men of God came to be with him in the cave, but to most these men appeared to be the misfits of God's nation. Jeremiah was in a large city but there were 200 false prophets who he stood against but not by himself for he had God Almighty. Jonah was not sent to Ninevah by any church but by God himself. Jonah went to that great city of over 120000 people and preached against the evil that was being done there; but Jonah was not alone. John the baptist was NOT part of any church that sent him out or backed him up. He went out into the wilderness and was alone with God. God sent him to preach and God was with him in prison. But it appeared to most that John was alone. But John had the Creator of the universe who had filled John with His Holy Spirit from the womb. John was not alone anymore than Joseph was alone in the Pharaohs prison. Joseph did not lose his faith even though he was the only one of his faith in the land for years. But Joseph walked with God. - 32And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, 33who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. 35Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection. 36Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison. 37They were stoned[f]; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.--- Many of these men of faith appeared to be alone. But they were not alone for God plus any man is a MAJORITY. It is the foolish men who stood against these holy men that were alone even though they appeared to have many friends and they thought they were serving God by persecuting these men. Lou

No Obligations

I do not believe that Christians are under Law and so object to your statement that Christians have an obligation to evangelize. John 17:3 says "And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent-Jesus Christ." If we know God we will know how loving He is and as he writes "His law on our hearts" we will willingly tell others about Him.

- Just like she said
| Posted On: 01/15/08 09:20:21 AM | | Age 39, OH | I cannot understand how Christians truly believe it is not their responsibility to share the Gospel(evangelism). Jesus told His disciples to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. He would also tell them that they would be witnesses unto me in both Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the world. I guess the test of the true disiple is evangelism. How can anyone who is in a close relationship with Christ not want to tell others how they too can have that same wonderful relationship? Their souls depend on us! Click here to reply to this post
- Christian obligations
| Posted On: 01/14/08 12:38:23 PM | | Age 69, GA | True, we aren't under law, but that doesn't relieve us of obligations (James 1 of many examples can be cited, and Paul advised us to be living sacrifices). But we obey out of gratitude for what Jesus did, and out of Love for him, not because of law, or rules. Click here to reply to this post
