Knowledge of Life After Death
Posted On: 01/09/08 11:46:49 AM Age 52, MN
The assertion that we can't know what happens after death begs the question of whether we can believe Jesus or not. He clearly claimed to know what happens, and as God He would have all knowledge about what happens. So our experience is not the issue, it is whether or not we believe what Jesus said about Himself and life after death.

Good to know you are also homeschooled! You've done an excellent job explaining this particular dilemma. My only thought is that I want to keep the MANY people who might still have a possibility of an open mind on any subject I might be talking about from turning me off completely. I believe that is why people would appear to be overly tolerant, or skeptic of saying that others will be in hell - that TRULY is God's area (judgement) which we are told to reserve for his day of wrath. I know we can make judgements of actions & character based on God's word, but to allow others the liberty to FIND OUT FOR THEMSELVES if God's words are true, we can state what we believe without the "arrogance" of seeming to know for ALL. Of course, we DO know...but let them discover! For themselves! With our help, yes. This is to me a loving response, as long as we don't totally ignore the sin & repentance & other doctrinal issues when they are ready for them. Maybe these are the pearls God wants kept hidden.. I believe Francis Schaeffer mentioned "keeping a foot in each camp" Do you think I am "emergent theology" in this? I think the emergent people are onto some good things -- too bad some have thrown out the baby (Jesus) with the bath. Unity in Essentials, CHARITY in ALL!

Assuming the correct definition of Arrogant...
Posted On: 01/04/08 06:21:59 AM Age 65, CA
My dictionary defines "arrogant" as: "having a feeling of superiority that shows or is inclined to show itself in an overbearing attitude or in claiming more consideration than is due; exaggerating one's own worth or importance; overhearingly haughty..." This pretty much describes attitudes of character that Christ didn't have, taught against, fought against; it was these attitudes that were the major characteristics of those who screamed for His death on the cross. There may be a few people who ignorantly sound off about being superior in their Christianity, but this is not to be applied to the whole Body of Christ. It is not arrogant to preach the True Word or to repeat the "that the wages of sin is death." The debate on this subject should be about the accusation that, what we believe about the truths of God is arrogant!! The word arrogance has no meaning in the discussion about truth.
