I agree 100%. People claim that Christmas is starting to not represent the birth of Christ, and that it is becoming commercialized. I agree , but i would go as far to say that it never did. Not only is the date of Christmas derived from the celebration of a Roman God, but it is also the celebration of a Greek God that started even earlier in history. This day was preceded by 12 days of drunken orgies: where do you think we get the 12 days of Christmas? I think it is great that people celebrate the birth of Christ, but must realize that the holiday we have created to do that is neither culturally, biblically, historically, or even seasonally accurate!!!!!

What I Want for Christmas

The "non negotiable" issues of life and marriage are not political issues. If better morals are to be had in this society, then more and more people need to do as I did over 12 years ago: REMOVE THE TELEVISION FROM THE HOME. George Cancilla

What I want for Christmas...

I know that practically every "Christian" reading this will think I am Jewish or unredeemed, but I am very disappointed that so many supposedly learned theologians still equate the Christ with Christmas! Ms. Folgers, do you ever read and study your Bible, or do you just pick and choose the parts you like, just as 98% of most other folks who profess to be Christians do! Do you not understand that the verse about the traditions of men, and why we are to avoid them and about the deceit associated with them? Do you not understand that you can't change the name of a pagan festival and add a couple of "Christian symbols" and remove something like orgies, and make it of the Christ?! This Christmas season you are so eager to make your wishes and desire known is just an ancient Roman pagan festival called 'Saturnalia', repackaged. The fact that it is a pagan festival should have true Christians screaming to remove any mention of Christ being associated with it! And the fact that it is a lie that our Savior was born in late December should also make shivers run down every Christian pastor's back! We all know that Yahushua Hammashiach, who we Anglo's so erroneously call "Jesus Christ", was very likely born in late September or perhaps even early October, 3 full months before Saturnalia! If the desire to truly celebrate the Savior's birth was real, then September 25th would be far more close to the actual date than December 25th. And for Christians to profess that Christmas is the most holy day of the year is just blasphemy and heresy! The first mass for the Christ was held to give the new Roman Christians something to do, other than observe Saturnalia, especially the many orgies that were customary! The early church in Rome face stiff resistance from the common folks who loved their Saturnalia, so to appease the Romans that where unredeemed, they compromised and cooped Saturnalia, changing on the name and insisting that the orgies be removed! Everything else, the gift giving, tree decorations, decorating with lights, and feasting all remain. Later things like the Yule log and Mistletoe was taken from Druidic practices, and Santa Claus is a collection of European traditions all combined, none of which has anything to do with the Christ or the worship or honoring of our Savior Yahushua Hammashiach. In fact the Puritans that first settled this country ban the observance of Christmas because of it pagan symbolism and origin, and it wasn’t mid 19th century that it became popular again, at the promotion of the merchants. Why would you try to celebrate the birth of the Savior’s birth with a holiday filled with lying and pagan symbolism? If that isn’t the biggest slap in His face, I don’t know what is!!! Don’t you think if celebrating His birth was the most important thing, that the Father or the Savior Himself, would have seen fit to have His actual birth date recorded in the scriptures!?! The Father YHWH gave us 7 Holy days to observe in Lev. 23, and He was very specific about when and how to observe them, so why didn’t He take the same care with the celebration of His only begotten Son’s birth!?! Do you really know Whom you profess to serve? I truly wish all Christians would stop and take time to learn about Whom they serve and worship, they just might discover how unimaginably great the gift that was given to us by our Father YHWH through His Son Yahushua Hammashiach truly was, and what a tremendous honor it is to be able to worship and serve the Holy Trinity, it is! 1. Old Testament Feasts

Dear Mark, perhaps it is you who need to review the Scriptures. In the book of Colossians, Paul is talking about the pre eminence of Jesus Christ. In Chapter two, verse 14, we see that Christ: "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross." He went on to say: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the substance is of Christ." (Colossians 2:16-17). The incarnate Christ brought the fulfillment of the Old Testament feasts. I am glad He was born into a human body, God incarnate. So were a heavenly host of angels: "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God..." (Luke 2:13). I'd say that was a celebration worth imitating. That many choose to do it on December 25th, is totally their business and irrelevant as to whether or not they are Christians. George Cancilla

This is not anything personal or meant to be a harsh put-down, but I notice that your first sentence seems to say that you will be branded as a non-Christian, and yet those who would (if they did) get quotes around the word Christian...are you implying those who celebrate Christmas (i.e. disagree with you) are not Christians? :S
