Is Christianity Arrogant? -Part 1

Christianity Is Arrogant
Posted On: 12/19/07 04:23:18 PM Age 37, NY
I too find it hard to believe that a loving god would send people to hell for an eternity (for whatever reason). But there it is right there in the scriptures. If I were god, I would not choose to do such a thing. But those are MY values. God doesn't care about my values. He only cares about his own. And it was God who set the whole thing up this way. He didn't have to do construct this whole do or die ultimatum situation but he choose to--presumably based on his own values. Who are we to question the cosmic creator and dictator? A slight comparrison: If a woman put a gun to my head and told me to love and marry her or die. My marring her would only be out of fear of death and not based in love--this would also not reflect my own values--to bad for me. Presumably she would know that I was just going through the motions. She could later choose to kill me if she so desired. But what purpose would all this serve. Her glory? I guess it is not my/our place to question such things. Those who do question such things are sometimes confronted by Christians who know God's "plan" forwards and backwards. To them, arragounce on the part of the Christian comes to mind. I imagine that the SS and the others who carried out Hitler's plan seemed arrogant as well.

  1. ANGER DOES NOT BRING WISDOM

You are certainly correct about one thing you say. You are not God. I am thankful you are not God and I am thankful I am not God. It does not take much wisdom to look at the creation and see there is a Creator. It also does not take much wisdom to see that man is evil and does not do a good job running the world. It is common sense to ask my Creator to show me the truth for I can see my lack. But some are so foolish as to think their selves wiser than God. Then they are angry with God for their foolishness. Humility brings wisdom. Lou

MY RESPONSE IS IN ALL CAPS: I too find it hard to believe that a loving god would send people to hell for an eternity ... FOR DISCUSSION, DO YOU THINK GOD AND HELL EXIST? But there it is right there in the scriptures. CHAPTER-VERSE? If I were god, I would not choose to do such a thing. WOULD YOU NOT SEND HITLER TO HELL? But those are my values. God doesn't care about my values. He only cares about his own. WHY SHOULD HE CARE ABOUT YOUR VALUES AND NOT HITLER’S? And it was God who set the whole thing up this way... Who are we to question the cosmic creator and dictator? I’D ENCOURAGE YOU TO QUESTION HIM. IT WOULDN’T HURT TO READ THE BIBLE COMPLETELY, TOO. IN YOUR COMPARISON YOU MENTIONED “fear of death.” DO YOU FEAR DEATH? Those who do question such things are sometimes confronted by Christians who know God's "plan" forwards and backwards. WHAT DO YOU THINK GOD’S PLAN IS? NOT CONFRONTING - JUST ASKING QUESTIONS. To them, arragounce on the part of the Christian comes to mind. IF ARROGANCE IS BAD, IS THAT YOUR VALUE OR AN OBJECTIVE MORAL? I imagine that the SS and the others who carried out Hitler's plan seemed arrogant as well. IF YOU ALINE REPENTANCE-FORGIVENESS (God’s Plan) WITH KILLING EVERYONE (Hitler’s plan), PLEASE EXPLAIN THE LOGIC.

WHAT WE SEE IS NOT REALITY
Posted On: 12/19/07 10:15:34 AM Age 64, OH
Men like Carl Sagan are acting like fools. They say the physical world is all that there is. How do they define this physical world; by what we can see? We know that the physical realm is NOT as it appears. We see a solid object at rest with our eyes but it is not as it appears. It is almost all NOTHING. It is a few particles moving at the speed of light and is mostly space. But not even these particles are what we call matter. They are nothing but little strings of energy and their is no matter but only our perception of it. So the physical world is not as it appears. We can not depend on our human senses but these senses are useful so as not to walk in front of a truck. The only thing that is real is what was from the beginning, and is, and will be. We should seek reality or truth. If we look at the creation then we can see there is a Creator. It is only reasonable to seek this Creator who has created all. For none of us can bring about his own existence. This fact which is so easily seen should cause us to humble ourselves and seek our Creator. Lou

Arrogant - The First Fallacy
Posted On: 12/18/07 11:46:53 PM Age 47, AR
Mr. Wayne, Thank you for your insightful article. The breakdown of logic in the opinions of the deceived never ceases to amaze me. You have done an excellent job of clarifying muddy waters, stirred up purposefully, of course, by those who simply want to eliminate all accountability to God. Unfortunately, logic doesn't seem to work well with these people. This is the point at which they begin screaming, calling you hateful, and employing other manipulations to, once again, create confusion and muddy the waters. But for the sake of developing discernment in believers, I would like to address another fallacy in the statement by the "Christian" leader you quoted at the beginning of your article. He said, "I just can't envision a loving God sending people to a dark, eternal punishment simply because they don't believe exactly the way we do." The cause and effect in this statement has no biblical basis. If this statement were true, "we" would replace God as the source of truth. God does not use human belief systems as His standard for deciding the eternal destination of people. People don't go to hell because "they don't believe exactly the way WE do." What Christians believe has no bearing on another person's salvation or damnation. People go to hell because they don't believe the truth as God reveals it, not because they disagree with a human belief system. They are choosing to go to hell by their own rebellion against God. The "Christian" leader you quoted has offered a flawed statement as a diversion from the real issue: Do you believe God as He has revealed Himself, or not? Unfortunately, many believers are blindsided by such diversions and don't know how to answer fallacy-based statements. Thank you for challenging Christians to THINK! Shari
