Sabato's plans to rewrite the constitution are bad and need to be rejected.
If anything good can come from these ideas, it will be to inspire Americans to examine our Constitution and recommit ourselves to these ideals of liberty, free enterprise.
That's why I support Ron Paul in January's Primary.

sorry, i don't understand why these ideas are all bad or necessarily "liberal." from what i understand, the constitution allows for changes and amendments and that many have been proposed throughout our nation's history. that is part of the democratic process. some of the suggestions--particularly the one that everyone must serve in the military or civil service--sound like ideas worth considering. is there anything theologically wrong with these suggestions? anything inconsistent with biblical teaching?

It is a very bad idea to have a rewrite or even a constitutional amending happen, because it would open doors for such things as this to happen and overthrow biblical concerns for writing in amendments, such as on life and marriage. (Reminds me of the amendments that were to take place with the Articles of Confederation, instead you had a secret closed door meeting, and we then ended up with the constitution.) There are already provisions in the Constitution for such matters, but we as a people have chosen to ignore the Constitution. We are in an illegal war, yet many of my fellow conservatives won't support the most constitutionally minded candidate for president because he is against the illegal war, undeclared war in Iraq, the unconstitutional war on drugs (at the federal level), etc.... People who truly care about the U.S. Constitution should all be supporting Ron Paul as he is the only candidate that has a clue what it means and plans to abide by it. He truly means what he says when he takes his oath of office to uphold the Constitution. He isn't off on a Christian platform, even though he does hold biblical values dear to his heart (read more about this at http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance127.html )
Rewrite or amending is BAD NEWS!

BLOOD OR PROFIT

These men who want to rewrite the constitution have not shed any of their blood to show that they are worthy to do so. The writers of our present constitution proved their qualifications by their sacrifice of blood and treasure. The men that want to rewrite our beloved document have instead of sacrifice made themselves rich off of the people who they claim to want to protect. They have already had their chance to protect the people and instead they reaped the fat of the land and left the people poor. If you are low on blood you don't need leaches but you need donors. Lou

It reminds me of the line in the movie "Bees" at the end where the main bee has the mosquito on his law team, and his client says, "I didn't know you were a lawyer too." And the mosquito replies: "It wasn't hard to become a lawyer. I was already a blood sucking parasite. All I needed was a briefcase." What good would it do to rewrite the constitution? Most elected officials don't abide by the one we have already. George Cancilla Click here to reply to this post

For I have been critical of your views sometimes, although sometimes I have wrote in agreement with you. I encourage you in the Lord Jesus who is everything. Any man who has Christ has everything there is to possess and lacks not one thing, Paul said. I hope to see you on the other side of the Jordon. Lou Click here to reply to this post

While I agree that rewriting the Constitution is a bad idea, it is certainly better than ignoring the Constitution. We are in an illegal war, yet many of my fellow conservatives won't support the most constitutionally minded candidate for president because he is against the illegal war, undeclared war in Iraq, the unconstitutional war on drugs (at the federal level), etc....
