After listening to the interview with Todd Friel, it appears that Doug Pagitt denies the existence of hell, believes in some sort of annihilationism, and claims that judgment is really restoration. They appear to be abberant at best and probably heretical at worst. If this is Doug's idea of what the gospel means then Jesus Christ suffered and died for nothing.

I believe that Pagitt is a heretic based on what I heard. He is voicing the same kinds of liberal heresies that were heard during the 1920's and 30's when Biblicism was destroyed in the mainline churches. For a good primer on that era--see The Great Evangelical Disaster by Francis Schaeffer. Schaeffer was a young Presbyterian pastor at that time and saw the ravages of liberalism first hand. It caused him and others to form a group who called themselves "fundamentalists" based on the fundamentals of the historic Christian faith--as seen in the five "solas." This gave birth to the great evangelical movement that we all have a stake in. The most devastating attacks on the Bible-based doctrines of the Church have always come from within. Schaeffer warned in 1984, shortly before his death, that evangelicalism was in grave danger of a new attack of the same kind--it appears he was prophetic. In the words of the great Reformers: "Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Sola Christo, Sola Scriptura, Sola Deo Gloria." By grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone, for God's glory alone! Amen?

Deceived. The truth has been distorted by an agenda that is so ingrained by the lord of earth. It's so devisive that the body of Christ is full of fissures and crevasses. So sad. But do not be dismayed, the Lord of all creation of heaven and earth will be victorious! Our battle is not against flesh and blood(other men who speak falsehood) but principalities and rulers in the spiritual world(satan's agenda is to deceive and distort and bring down as many people as possible these are his words of confusion). This disagreement/discussion is a battle in the spirit realm.

Oh, Todd, I am grieved by Doug Pagitt's statements. He is on such a wrong track. What did Christ die for, according to Mr. Pagitt? According to him, we really are all the same. No need to take a stand now or become "born again" which were Christ's own words. In fact, why preach the gospel at all, right? There must be a little bit of truth in everything, just enough to get us by and go on to this messy grey area of judgment on a person's life and just make sure we've done enough good deeds of our own. Poor Luther. He sure got it all wrong when he put his life on the line and was excommunicated from the church. I don't know, but I believe the Catholic church knew exactly what Luther was saying, which was why it was so threatening to them. But this postmodern world wants to turn it all around. A "line in the sand" is being drawn between the righteous and the unrighteous and eventually, everyone will have to take a stand. Remember, failing to take a stand is actually taking a stand. "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Rev. 3:15-16. I am convicted by these words, which make me personally want to get my house in order. I would encourage Mr. Pagitt to do the same.

In a short and pointed response --- Doug Pagitt is a philosopher who spews his philosophy which is nothing more than jibber-jabber. He obviously has NO idea about Biblical Truth and I would advise anyone and everyone who sits under his false teaching to run for their lives and souls. Sincerely in Christ, Dr. Larry E. Teboe

Total Heretic- he has replaced the clear teaching of scripture with his own distorted views. He preaches another Gospel.

Heretic

The pastor is basically an agnostic, denying the very words of the Bible, denying the very words of Christ, denying the very words of God. He so metaphorized Scripture into some fairy tale story of butterflies and rainbows, denying the true Nature of God and His judgments. It may be an overkill, but that's my view on the subject.(no offense to those who support the man.) Glory to God for your efforts Todd in your efforts to reveal the dangers of the Emergent Church. God bless you.
