Bryan, good points. But it's possible to be hated and persecuted for simply being antagonistic, and self-righteous. Some Christians seem to take Jesus' clearing the money-changers from the Temple, as an example of how to act. I have worked for, and worked with "Christian" men, and women, who by their personality or conviction represent Christ in an arrogant, unloving manor. They do more harm than good to the cause of Christ. But to them, persecution or hatred is proof that they are right. If the world mocks and hates us for being righteous, or standing up for righteousness, OR loving people as Christ would, we have done well. I am glad you mentioned the Stams. Yes, talk to missionaries and read biographies of missionaries and martyrs. I have a dear missionary friend who would say "preach it, Bryan!" She claims that in semenary, she was petrified at the thought of taking to someone about Christ, yet now her boldness is amazing! Finally, I know it's difficult, but PLEASE, flee from materialism, and sexual sin, and worthless pop culture. (ie., BE HOLY)

Well said, Bryan! I'm a student pastor and this is one of the most important things that needs to be ingrained not just in students, but in the church as a whole. I fear too many of us have not "counted the cost" of following Christ, either before we received Him or since. Thank you for your bold declaration and challenge. I will certainly turn my students on to your plea!

Dear Jim, I so agree with you. There are not many of us left anymore (that I can find) who are willing to be "Politically Incorrect" for the Gospel. Such a Holy and Awesome God and we trash His Grace every chance we get. We in the Western world have no idea what persecution is - Go to your local mall and start telling people about Jesus - even then you won't have a clue, but you might get a taste!!!

Bryan - Thank you for the reminder that we should NEVER be obsessed with being "cool." We need to set our minds and hearts on things above. As we do, it becomes easier to let go of the craving for peer approval and "coolness."

Thank you for writing this article. It is such an encouragement to see young people like me being open to the call of Christ Jesus. Keep up the good work! Aaron

I agree with this writer, however I would hope that we educate our youth well enough about the TRUE CHRIST that they will recognize Him when he returns to us.
