This is from columnist Glen Grunewald explaining why Christians (like Marsha West) are so quick to jump on the Craig issue while virtually saying nothing about the Vitter case (conservative married christian man regularly soliciting prostitutes) and many other non-gay scandals which truly are threatening the American Family.// It is this same self-interested, cost-free moralism that explains how it could be that, with the exception of Mitt Romney, all of the leading presidential candidates in the Party of Traditional Marriage have personal lives that reflect everything except for those values, with all their wrecked marriages and multiple wives and long adulterous records and various "step-children" and the like. And even more revealingly, the leading lights of the Traditional Values movement -- from Rush Limbaugh to Newt Gingrich to Bill O'Reilly -- have some of the most morally depraved lives of any public figures, making most Hollywood celebrities seem chaste by comparison. //
But their moral depravity is of the heterosexual variety, and thus perfectly tolerable, because to condemn them or repudiate them would be to make huge numbers of the Values Voters faithful feel condemned as well. And no political moralizing is possible if its mandates require real sacrifice or restraint from its adherents. That is and always has been the great sham that defines the exploitation of moral issues for political gain. It does everything except apply its alleged principles consistently.

Second, why are you painting every conservative Christian group out there as hypocrites? Most were equally enraged at Sen. Vitter as they were with soon-to-be-former Sen. Craig. Third, I wouldn't be paying attention to any of the GOP's "Big 3/4". Why not try to see that someone with true convictions and no "marital rap sheet" gets traction? Click here to reply to this post

No one would talk to about it -- they said this is a private matter, this is a family member. And when [Vitter] eventually met with Republicans behind closed doors, they gave him a hearty round of applause, as I was told. I don't think Senator Craig is going to get that kind of reception." // And Newt and Rush are certaily courting the pro-family values bloc - as is John McCain who went after (and eventually married) a 25 year old heiress while he was married, and launched his poitical career with her money and Fred Thompson who keeps talking about 'traditional marriage' with his second wife next to him who is younger than his daughter - and as you know I could go on and on - but that's heterosexual stuff, so who gives a rip? We have to get the gays -they're the real threat and then I don't have to say anything about divorce, affairs, remarriage, etc, which IS happening all around us -uh huh. However, I also agree that Christians nowadays seem to turn a blind eye to hetero deviancy. It's almost as if we'd rather see people having sex outside of marriage as long as it's hetero. Newsflash! It's sin just the same, folks! Also, the namecalling and labelling have to stop! Or did the author of this article forget that all of these people are made in the image of God just as much as any Christian. The Imago Dei is something that God takes VERY seriously. It's okay to call sin what it is. It is NOT okay to namecall and slur and such. Remember that Paul urges those who call people out in their sin to do so with HUMILITY. Look up that word if you don't know what it means. I'm sure that the author of this article has told a lie at some point in her life. I'm sure that she's done something sinful. It's no more suitable for her to call people "pervs" in such a derogatory and inflammatory manner than it would be for me to write a lengthy article about how she is a "liar." Romans gives us a list of things humans do to sin, and then Paul says "and such were some of you." condemning of the sin. Not damning of the sinner. Click here to reply to this post

If it is true that those who represent hetrosexual morality are guilty of adulterous affairs then they should indeed resign.
However this does not justify any attempt by immoral people to negate their personal responsibility in how they conduct themselves sexually. Call a spade a spade.
Where will we all stand on that day? http://ww.thegoodtest.net Click here to reply to this post
