You all pitiful jackasses out there, when you all so-called Christian are going to get it right? You must follow and obey Jesus Christ, and him only. 15: 5 – 6 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned

I echo some of the other readers' responses. Yes, this is horribly true - but what is the appropriate Christian response? How do I hold my government accountable and, better yet, how do I protect myself and my family from the inevitable repercussions?

Chuck, now why did you have to go and ruin my day? Don't you know that I have enough problems? And you want me to worry about all of that too? Sorry, my friends... but that's exactly what many Americans think. And that includes way too many Cristians. The ugly truth is... we brought this upon ourselves. Oh yes we did. Because we simply do NOT hold our elected people responsible. And that hurts. And we dislike politicians in general, but we just love our OWN reps who can do no wrong. And we won't recognise that it is in the primaries, and only then, that we clean house. And then we refuse to inconvenience ourselves... by getting informed and getting involved. And finally, Brannon Howse is right. Dead right. Way too many Christians AND their leaders do not hold a Biblical world wiew. And then we do very little to hold those church leaders responsible. And that, my friends... is tragic. Because it matters. Because all of that hurts the very people we love the most. In Him, scott.

Rolling back gov't control to year 2000 levels would be a great first step. Smaller Federal gov't is the best solution. "Fear of absolute powers" is something the Founding Fathers warned about.

Very good job Chuck. Any one of these things is enough to bankrupt the US. The Social Security is beyond repair and they know it. When the baby boomers retire there will not only be way more people collecting but way fewer people paying in. The Social Security system is doomed. If the democrats get elected in the next election Hillery will put her national health insurance into effect. National health insurance sounds good to many but it will not be good. The obesity, substance abuse, aids and other disease from homosexual and other immoral sex will bankrupt this country. People who can not stop eating more and more do not need to be enabled but need to be told that there is no insurance of any kind if they decide to commit suicide by food. Life insurance companies learned a long time ago that they could not cover suicide and stay in business. The people trying to commit suicide with food , sex, drugs and cigarettes will bankrupt this nation. No nation can pay for people to have such destructive habits and survive. The NAFTA brought and end to many jobs as Ross Perot said it would. If you liked NAFTA you will love the North American Union. If you take our national debt and divide it by the population this is what you get. 53 trillion divided by 300 million = $176,667.00 that every man , woman, and child is in debt. That means a family of four would owe $776,668.00. If this debt gets called in as it looks like in the future we will not be able to pay it. The government can only collect from it's people. But many of these people do not even pay taxes but collect money from the government. That would leave even more for the ones that earn money to pay. The demise of this nation is told about in the Revelation. This nation is political Babylon for what other nation is like a jewel encrusted gold cup that God held in His hand and all the nations flock to. The fall of this nation will be swift and great and our enemies will rejoice over us. How sorrowful. Lou

Great article: succinct, and terrifying. I find that if I accept your "facts and figures" as correct, that we are in the grip of a financial boa constrictor. And the longer we stand by, paralyzed by this terror, the less likely we can free ourselves from the murderous squeeze. I understand most of the principals of what the author says, but, I am still left "not knowing what I can do", or should do, to protect my family and our assets/resources. I pray asking for guidance, I study these matters, I vote to express my opinions and I call and write my representatives and I tell them to reduce the deficit, quit wasting our money - but the response is ALWAYS a form letter telling me, more or less, to "stand by - we are on the job - and oh yes, send some money for my re-election"! Someone, please come up with a path of action for me, and try to keep it to 100 words or so. Thanks!

You asked about a path of action--I can only tell you one I have chosen. I am working to elect Congressman Dr. Ron Paul (mentioned in the article) as President in 2008. He champions a return to the Constitution, a reduction in government, the elimination of the IRS and the Federal Reserve (which is a PRIVATE institution), and a return to sane monetary policy. His statement of faith is here http://www.covenantnews.com/ronpaul070721.htm and information on his other views may be found here http://www.house.gov/paul/legis.shtml and here ronpaul2008.org . I believe he is the only candidate who fully understands the mess we are in and that the way to get us out of it is to return to the values of our founding fathers and the "divinely inspired" (his words) Constitution.

Thank you, Mr. Missler, for the warning. Here is some additional information from Ron Paul, in a statement he gave to Congress: http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2006/cr021506.htm "The economic law that honest exchange demands only things of real value as currency cannot be repealed. The chaos that one day will ensue from our 35-year experiment with worldwide fiat money will require a return to money of real value. We will know that day is approaching when oil-producing countries demand gold, or its equivalent, for their oil rather than dollars or Euros. The sooner the better." George Cancilla

Going on the gold standard would destroy this country. Gold only has the value we put on it. The countries with the most gold would set the price and that would not be the US. South Africa, Russia, and China would become wealthy overnight and smaller gold poor countries would have nothing. Also the price would have to be extremely high so computers and other elctronics would be way out of reach for most people. What would you set the price at ? it could be $1,000,000 an ounce, The gov't would set the price. How does that fit with less gov't control? We could not import much if others demanded gold. We don't have that much.

So, do you think the United States has the right to force others to accept the dollar at the point of a gun?
