I am from you would call the "emergent" church. I would also classify myself as a postmodern. I also believe in the absolute infallibility of the written Word of God. I believe that the entirety of Scripture is God-breathed. I believe that we need to seek out culturally relevant ways to share the Gospel. I believe that salvation is only through the redemptive work of the Cross. I believe that if we focus all of our effort on telling, and none on relating, we have already forsaken the Gospel we are trying to share. I believe that God is absolutely Sovereign. I believe that our prayers can change God's intended purpose. I read Brian McLaren, I read Rick Joyner, I read John MacArthur, I read Watchman Nee. After hearing all those true statements, who would be willing to say that I'm not a Christian? I believe that our BROTHER Brian McLaren would agree with all that I've said. Also, a note to Steve Camp. Before we start criticizing a movement for having their own vernacular that must be understood before we can communicate with them, we need to examine what in our own vernacular could prevent outsiders from communicating with us.

Three excellent commentaries thus far which agree 100% with my own opinion of the Wmergent Church Movement which is most heretical. I cannot add anything to what has been said about this heresy except to hope and trust that websites like this one will succeed in burying them all into oblivion.....

Brian McLaren is not a Christian. And everyone needs to stop calling him "brother". He does not worship the God of The Bible. He is not a Christian. But instead brings shame on the name of the Lord and has a God of his own making. The Bible names these people as heratics and idol worshipers. We all need to start calling him and many others what they are, put them out of the church in the hopes they would repent and be saved.

There are those who want to keep their ckae and eat it too. Mcclaren is a classic neo orthodox who would have made Barth proud. He reminds me of Absalom who sttod at the gate and told every one that their cause was just. You cant be on everybodies side at once. In war time we call them double agents. Their are not true to either side but only to themselves. Elijah's call is still true today: if God be God serve him if Baal then serve him ....

Dear brother Steve; Everything you say about Brian McLaren and the emergent church is true. Also the Bible is inspired by the Lord Jesus Christ and every jot and tittle is written by Him. Everything that The Lord Of Truth says in the Bible is true. Of course when Satan is quoted it is truly what Satan said but what he spoke is NOT true. Man also speaks in the Bible and somethings that man speaks are not true. But the man is truthfully quoted. But you say, "The Bible is God's self revelation to man. In it we have all that we need for life and godiness." Then you referrence 2Peter 1:3-4.3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.- The scripture does NOT say that the Bible gives us everything we need for life. But it says it is "His divine power and knowledge of Him". The knowledge Of Him the Bible is talking about is NOT knowing facts about Him BUT knowing Jesus personally. You are pointing to the scriptures as all we need for life. The scriptures tell us that In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and created man in His image. The scriptures did NOT create us but the Creator the Lord Jesus Christ created us and gave us life. The scriptures did NOT DIE FOR US. But it was the Lord of Mercy and Justice the Lord Jesus who shed His blood for you and me. No one can have physical life or spiritual life with the scriptures BUT it is the AUTHOR of the scriptures that give us life. The Bible tells us the the Word of God is a person NOT a book. The Word of God is the Lord Jesus Christ and not the Bible. We are to worship the CREATOR and NOT the creation. Jesus spoke to the pharisees about this in John 5:39 You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, - The pharisees looked to the scriptures for life and Jesus told them they were wrong and should look to Jesus for life. You are correct Paul preached from the scriptures but he did not focus on the scriptures but put his focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. For Paul said "I want to preach NOTHING but Jesus Christ and Him crucified". Notice Paul NEVER said I want to preach nothing but the scriptures. The scriptures NEVER tell us to follow the scriptures. That is what the pharisees did and it was the way of death. The scriptures tell us to follow the Author of the scriptures the WORD OF GOD THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. This is what Jesus is talking about when He says to Peter in Matthew 16:15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" 16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ,[b] the Son of the living God." 17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,[c] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[d] will not overcome it- The rock that Jesus builds His church on is the personal revelation from God to a man that Jesus is the Christ and is God Almighty. Notice that it was not the Bible that revealed this truth to Peter but God Himself. We read the Bible and it causes us to seek Jesus Christ and then Jesus Christ reveals Himself to us and saves us from sin and death to life everlasting. Lou
