The research I have done about the entry of humanism into the public schools, matches up with what has been presented here. It should be obvious how far in the secular humanist direction the public schools have gone when you consider that it is actually illegal to speak about or display the name of Jesus on school grounds. Perhaps many school personnel turn their heads to and sneak around the law, but none the less, it is still illegal. I am not a big fan of Jerry Falwell, but I am in favor of a Biblically moral society. I would like to know how so many professing Christians can rationalize sending their children to public schools given the current legal condition therein. I praise Jerry Falwell for being probably one out of thousands who have tried to do something about a society that has been rapidly deteriorating under the onslaught of secular humanism. Christian schools are allright, but home schooling is a superior way to combat humanism and at the same time build stronger families. However, home schooling does require some sacrifices. While I myself boldy disagreed with Falwell's latching on to Bush's gospel of bombs & bullets. And while believing that politics and the passing of laws has little to do with the Gospel. I did vote in favor of every Law Falwell supported. Not that it was important for these laws to pass but if government is going to ask me, an example being what should define marriage. I would advise the goverment to keep marriage the way God intended it to be. Likewise I would do so in cases of abstinance vs safer sex, abortion, welfare, and other issues of the day. The one danger I could see is if Falwell suceeded, Pharaseeism would become our problem instead of the institutionalised permissiveness we have today. For this reason, back in the darkest days of the Clinton administration my stand was. "The 2nd Amendment stands as a guard against the radical right as much as it does the left. I would be just as quick to shoot Falwell's storm troopers as I would Hillary's" This of course was based on the assumption that Falwell was indeed the theocrat the left accused him of being.
Being Biblically incorrect on some issues does not make one unsaved. We need to remember that on the day of ascentin, Peter was still a militant Zionist asking Jesus is it was time to drive out the Romans and restore the nation of Isreal. So, even though I have my disagreements with Falwell, I wish him well in the next life.
As far as the godless left spewing hatred of him. Is that not what we want? Do we really want those in open rebellion against God to speak well of him? Thier curses are music to my ears! Did Jesus not warn "No servant is greater than his master. Just as the world hated me, the world will hate you".

I personally thank the Lord for Jerry Falwell, pastor, husband, father, and president of Liberty University who may now rest in peace and enjoy His Lord because he worshipped Him, served Him and proclaimed Him. I am one of those the Lord refers to when He finaly tells Jerry Falwell, "Son, Look around you. Great is your reward!" I grew up in Virginia, in a home where the TV Channel was quickly turned (to one of the other two) by my parents if Jerry Falwell or Billy Graham or the like came on. And of course, I took after them, dislikng them all, until years later at the age of 30 when I found myself depressed, miserable, hopeless and without God. With no one to turn to in my own life, I'd timidly and almost secretly turn the channel to CBN, PTL, even Jerry Falwell whose slogan at the time was "TRY GOD." If someone was really serious they could write in and Jerry Falwell would send them a gold "Try God" lapel pin to boldly wear and declare thir faith! It seemed to me that those pins were everywhere I turned! The day finally came as I drove home from the Psychiatrist's office with tears streaming down my face because she had told me it would be perhaps another 6 months at $75 a pop before she could honestly say what my problem was, that I "gave in" and shouted to God, "O.K., God, I have no other choice. My friends can't tell me, my parents can't tell me, even a Psychiatrist can't tell me how to be happy. I have no other choice but to "TRY YOU"! And that day, thanks to Jerry Falwell, was the beginning of the end of my life without God. A few days later, on Valentines Day 1978, I prayed with Ben Kenchlow while watching the 700 Club, and I was translated out of darkness into God's marvelous Light. Thanks to Jerry Falwell's invitation to "TRY GOD", I let go of my hopeless view of life that I called "What's IT All About Alphie?", "Tried God", and in doing so, the One who is FAITHFUl revealed Himself to me and I have never been the same. I thank God for Jerry Falwell, Ben Kinchlow and all of the others who are hated and misunderstood by the World, who sowed into my life that I can now say with boldness to others, "It was Jesus and only Jesus who gave me Living Water and I thirst no more! Won't you "TRY HIM?" He loves you dearly!"

If you watch Hitchens on CNN, it’s quite clear why he goes after Falwell. Oddly, Noebel doesn’t mention any of that in his article. I will attempt to paraphrase here. The bodies of 3000+ people who were murdered on September 11th were still burning in a heap of rubble when Falwell blamed the immorality of Americans for their deaths. He presented it to his pal Pat Roberson as some kind of deserved justice for our wicked ways. Similarly, there are videotapes of Al Qaeda members proclaiming the same exact thing. Anyone can see the despicable nature of these statements? Falwell also claimed that the Anti-Christ is already present amongst us and is an adult male Jew while at the same time encouraging the most extreme theocratic fanatic elements in Gaza not to give land to the people who had already been living there. He was full of anti-Semitic innuendo yet at the same time muscled Christian fundamentalism in bed with extreme Zionists in Israel—ruining any chance for peace a long the way. In part, because of him many people have and will continue to suffer and die in that part of the world. Hitchens whole point is that we give credibility to people like Falwell because they are called “Reverend” or “men of God”. But time and time again these people prove to be dangerous fruads. Pat Robertson is no different if not worse. The world will only hate these people because they expressed so much hatred at the world and the people who inhabit it not because what the Bible says. I know it’s every religious zealots dream to be an oppressed victim and a martyr just like Mohamed Atta but enough is enough. Christopher Hitchens was one of the first cheerleaders of our war on terror, who was defending the Bush administration lies on Iraq and still does, while blaming religion for all the worlds evil. As the world has moved away from Christianity, stealing, killing, rapes, tortures, child molestations, perversions and wars have increased a hundred-fold. Hitchens displays not just atheism, but a blasphemous and militant form of it, growing and being pushed forward by our elite, whose only gods are money, their own perverted pleasures and the devil who is the father of all blasphemers. Hitchens demonstrates clearly the spirit of antichrist. Hitchens is a front-line propagandist for the big money who brought you the killing spree in Iraq. Follow him and his satanic belief system and the horrors of Iraq will come to your neighborhood, in bloodstained living color, and Hitchens will cheer the situation on, and receive a fat check for his evil work. Then he will arrogantly and hyocritically blame God for the evil works of those who listen to him. No doubt religion has been and is being abused by evil men everywhere. But secularism does the same things with a greater reckless abandon than any religious person history has shown us. Hitchens and those like him are deeply troubled men who have a deep problem with the truth when certain facts get in the way of their paychecks.

Even if what you say is true, that doesn’t absolve Falwell of his deplorable actions in life. Mind you, Falwell was just as much of a cheerleader for the war—so we can call it even there. I believe your gripe about the Iraq war should be directed at the Neo-Conservatives and the Christian Right who blindly supported them—not atheist. Atheism is not the driving force behind Neo-Conservatism or the Christian Right. As a former protégé of Gore Vidal, it is an anomaly that Chris Hitchens supported the war in Iraq. I believe he made a grave error in this case. But this does not mean that he is wrong on everything, as Falwell has shown that he was. Falwell was even against civil rights and he supported apartheid. The war on terror was an entirely different story. The attacks of 9/11 were supported by religious belief, were they not? For those who supported the war in Iraq, conflating the two was their biggest mistake. If you look at the wars of the last 10-15 years, the vast majorities are of a religious nature. The problem needs to addressed. Hitchens is trying do this. Falwell on the other hand, claimed that “God is pro-war”
