I just saw an online viewing of The Secret in its entirety. Before doing so, however, I prayed the Holy Spirit's direction. From the very beginning I felt the presentation to be cultic, giving a message that anyone can be their own god personified through a universal energy, if you will. Scriptural reminders of "even the elect will be deceived" ..., as well as recall of the somewhat relentless struggles of saints come and gone had experienced ... why didn't they get it? Now, to be a bit fair, there was a nugget or two that could be applied in a generally positive sense in life, but not apart from who we are in Christ Jesus. NOT DECEIVED ...

"The fact that so many Christians—and especially young people—have fallen for it" is no one's fault but the churches'. I felt not one butterfly while reading this article because my faith in Christ is grounded in an understanding of the literal 6-day Creation and history in Genesis. "In other words, the universe will rearrange itself in response to our thoughts and feelings." That's the guru's thoughts and feelings and (s)he's entitled to them. “You shall be like God.” What the people who fall for that lie fail to grasp is that in order to be like God, one has to admit God exists. "If so many people know it now, is it still a secret?" Defeats the purpose, doesn't it!

| Posted On: 05/13/07 09:19:17 AM | | Age 52, FL | Well, here we go. I don't know how many times I've heard that my own deception was the cause of Christians, mother, father, whoever. We take no accountability for our own actions or reactions to situations in our lives. We are accountable for our own souls before God. Yes, everyone has a right to his or her opinion but the Word of God is not debatable. My point is that people seem to me like sheep without a shepherd. Let's not be swayed by every wind of doctrine just because some Christians have disillusioned us. Been there, done that. Click here to reply to this post

I was referring to the first line in your comment that the reason people, especially young people, have fallen for it is the fault of Christians. Are you blaming Christians for the reason people are led astray? Click here to reply to this post

| Posted On: 05/22/07 11:44:18 PM | | Age 30, IA | I blame churches (not necessarily Christians) for allowing young people to go astray because they don't provide a foundation for Christ. Most churches (a) ignore Genesis, leaving the public schools to explain origins based on evolution/Darwin that by nature runs opposed to the Genesis account; or (b) teach them how to "work" evolution into the Bible. If (a), the youth learn quickly that "the cosmos is all there is, ever was and ever will be." Therefore, Creation is a fairy tale, no sin, no judgement, no need for the Law. If Genesis is a myth so is the rest of Scripture, especially the Gospels. If (b), churches imply that God needed billions of years to make his "very good" creation through trial and error, one disaster after another with organisms constantly battling for survival. The youth learn that this god is dumb, weak and cruel - calling THIS world "very good." This god is also deceptive because again because this story doesn't correspond to Genesis 1. Again, no Adam and Eve because apes gradually developed into humans, so no fallen nature, no need for the Law. And then the church says, "Great news! God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life!" The youth says, "What a stupid message!" Either way, the church has destroyed the foundation for Christ, thereby encouraging young people to give their hearts and minds to these postmodern, gnostic and material ISMs. Click here to reply to this post

I think one of the reasons this thing rattles people so much, especially young people, is because 1)so many people are following it 2)it's very alluring to want to be "in control". It's the same old lie the serpent used in the Garden. The Word Faith movement teaches the same thing only disguised. They use the Bible as their source, which is scarier. There truly is only going to be a remnat who submit themselves to God and know that HE is the Lord of the Universe, not man.

Thank you for the review of the book and movie "The Secret," and for exposing its lies by using scriptural references. It sounds like a take off on the "Name it, Claim it, gospel" that has been brewing for some time before this "Secret" has been produced. I believe the appeal comes from a generation to generation movement toward self help, self esteem, and just plain old self centeredness. You are right. We have a our Gospel work cut out for us.
