Thank you for your presentation on this.Let me state, first of all that I am a Christian who believes that God's will is that the gifts of His Spirit still be in operation in His Body today. Some call that being Spirit-filled or Charismatic. Nevertheless, being around these types of Christians for many years, has gotten me in contact with the "binding and loosing" teachings that you referred to. I, too, at one time was "binding and loosing" in this manner and believed it was being effective in hindering satan's progress in the "heavenlies."
Today, after the grace and mercy of God has begun to make it's way into my heart, the desire to "control" things is diminishing. I am feeling safer as I get closer to the Lord and His protection and love for me. I think, in my case and maybe in many others too, that if we feel threatened by the things that could and are happening, we will gravitate towards doctrines (even those in error) which help us feel like we have some control or power, whether it be "binding and loosing," "binding God to His Word," "speak it and it will happen," or any of the dominionist doctrines, which speak of "taking over the world for Jesus." All of these pander to those who feel a loss of control or a desire for personal power possibly due to fear of insecurities.
So I pray that God's people would truly open up to Him and receive His mercy and grace, and then they wouldn't be vulnerable to the "doctrines of demons" and "every wind of doctrine" that are so pervasive today. It's about being safe in Him, not about controlling or being in charge. We need to find the shadow of His Wing.

TD Jakes is constantly preaching binding and loosing. You have probably heard of his seminar for women, "woman thou art loosed"? It's a complete show, and he's the star. They are all the center of attention, that preach that doctrine, if you will. Well, it's their doctrine, the doctrine of men. I've been binding Satan in my prayers for years, and I thank you for clearing this up for me. Those charlatans have been using God's word to their advantage for years. And this is a common misconception, that the Christian can bind Satan. If you think about it, it sounds like a curse. "I'm going to loose Satan and his demons on you". Like we have control over his activity. He walks about seeking whom he may destroy. God gives permission for his activities in our lives, not us. We just have the choice of responding to them.

What some people take pride in seems to be their freedom to "bind Satan" which makes them feel empowered. Sometimes I think "binding Satan" is prayed from the pulpit to exercise a sense of power or authority over a congregation, which is false. Many pastors are out there getting rich because they can tap into the emotions of hurt people, and become wealthy doing it. For those who don't continue to study and desire the truth of the harder teachings of scripture, this pattern of praying is a generational learned behavior. That seems to make it easily accepted in some circles. It's not about us, or our works. It's all about Jesus Christ, His finished work on the cross, and our position in Him. To God be the glory! It also makes us really appreciate the reliable pastors and writers who continue to do God's work! Click here to reply to this post
THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM

Your article portrays the truth of binding and loosing as far as it comes at the direction of the Holy Spirit NOT the desire of any man.The Old Testament states that no move of God starts with man. Man is never the source but God is the source of all that is good. If man can be the source of something good then we do not need the Holy Spirit. Jesus says we can do nothing without Him. Whoever thinks they can do anything even as to be the source of a good thought is sadly mistaken. Jesus is the Only One who is good and man's most righteous thought is as filthy rags. Does someone want to bring about filthy rags then let them think and speak and the Devil will be willing to help all he can. THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM -Matthew 16:13-20 -- When Jesus says He will give Peter the Keys to the kingdom we must not take this out of context. When Jesus asked the disciples "who do say that I am" and Peter answered "you are The Christ, The Son of The Living God." Jesus replied blessed are you Simon son of Jonah, for this was NOT REVEALED TO YOU BY MAN , BUT BY MY FATHER IN HEAVEN. And I tell you Peter that on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.I will give you the Keys to the kingdom; whatever you bind on earth will be bound on earth and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed on earth. First of all the rock that Jesus is going to build His church on is NOT PETER BUT THE REVELATION FROM GOD TO MAN THAT JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD. The rock is the revelation from God. It does not come from the scriptures but it can come through the scriptures. The scriptures can not be the source for the creation is not the source just as man is not the source. The Bible is part of the creation. If a man can not read or if the Bible had not been written yet; God could still reveal to a man that Jesus was the Christ Son of the Living God. NO ONE CAN ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM WITHOUT THIS REVELATION FROM GOD. God then says He will give Peter the keys to the kingdom. This revelation is the KEY TO THE KINGDOM. But this revelation comes at the will of God not the will of any man. So how did Peter hold the keys. Notice God said will give. When God gave the Holy Spirit to the disciples when He breathed on them and said "receive the Holy Spirit", it happened right then for it is impossible for The Word Of God who is the person of Jesus to speak and something NOT happen. This is why Jesus had to say Lazarus come forth for if He had not the whole grave yard would have rose from the dead. When the disciples had received the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, If you forgive anyone their sins they are forgiven ; if you do not forgive anyone their sins they are not forgiven". Is anyone so nonspiritual that they think they can forgive sin. Jesus is saying if a man is walking in the Holy Spirit then God might speak to him that someone is forgiven and they can then speak what the Spirit has already determined in heaven. So this is the keys to the kingdom. If the Holy Spirit is living in the heart of a man then the Holy Spirit will reveal to that man things to preach to reveal to others that Jesus is the Christ. Because without that revelation no one can enter. It is a key to the kingdom. Then the Holy Spirit will reveal to a man of His choice that someone is forgiven or not forgiven and they can speak this to people. These are the keys to the kingdom. Lou

That just doesn't fly without the element of believing faith. Please consider that Jesus has been talking about who people said He was. When read in context, the Bible clearly states that the church is built on the FAITH Peter displayed when he answered Jesus' question about who did he (Peter) say Jesus was. Peter's answer was "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And only THEN did Jesus say to him, "Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for this (this=knowledge of Messiahship, as professed and spoken from a position of faith) was not revealed to you by man, but by My Father in heaven. What Jesus goes on to say is that FAITH IN THE MESSIAH is what He would build His church on. Click here to reply to this post
