I am 63 and have spent about 250 dollars on TVs in my lifetime. I went to see Chariots of Fire and then took my kid to Home Alone and walked out after less than a minute. I could not believe that people who I went to church sat there with their little children and let them watch such CRAP. I do not rent movies or go to movies. Where our heart is there our treasure is also. How can any Christian watch someone mock the teachings of our Lord. Jesus was speaking the truth when He said that the road to life was narrow and few will find it. He also said the road to destruction was wide and most will follow it.

Excellent article! It took 3 years of slowly cutting out "this show" and "those movies" before we stopped altogether. First we cut out movies with graphic sex scenes and nudity. Then violence. Next thing you know we were renting PG movies because there wasn't much of a selection left. Then that went too. No movies, no TV. We have a TV but it's not hooked up, we watch Christian movies if we watch anything at all and our kids (who are 1 and 2) watch educational DVD's.
We have been called legalists because of this. But the Lord has very clearly revealed to us that being entertained by what He hates (sin) is not pleasing in His sight.

Thank you so much for your marvelous teaching! I am so offended by the junk on TV, satellite and movies that I get really adamant about it. It is not just because I am "old", I have always been that way, but few understood me then, and now. I forwarded your hard-hitting article to my young adult grand-kids, and their mother (my daughter) because they watch almost anything on T.V. and attend movies that are totally depraved, and all call themselves Christians. I really appreciate your article. Thanks and God bless you!

My parents think I've become "self-righteous" because I no longer watch some of their favorite movies and TV shows, such as "Date with an Angel" (80's film which made angels not only female but also ignorant) and "Babylon 5" (TV show that preaches pantheism, apotheosis by evolution, and that Christianity and other religions are based from a primitive misunderstanding of alien visitors). It doesn't seem to occur that maybe I can't watch these anymore because the Spirit dwelling in me will not sit silently while He is slandered! Click here to reply to this post

Your article sure hit home with me. I have to tell you that I am troubled by what my college age children are watching at the movies and on television. I hate hearing that they watch these kinds of shows and am fooling myself by thinking that the way they were raised will prevent these shows from having any negative impact on them. It seems that they are entertained by these shows and continue to watch them. They don't condone the behavior, nonetheless, I feel very uncomfortable . My children make it a point of telling me what movies I won't like. At least they have that sense of right or wrong but in the end they watch it anyway. Thank you for your article, I would like my children to read it. I pray that they will take heart.
Thanks again,
A concerned mom.

Well said, Shane. We should also not complain about our culture. Collectively, we have the one we deserve. And the sixty-four million dollar question remains... when will the majority of Christians start to vote with their pocketbooks? I'm truly sorry for putting it that way, but if we were doing it... we would ALL see it reflected in our communities. The tragic truth is - we Christians CAN make a difference here... if we just believed it. In Him, scott.

Terrific article. I have not had television for 23 years. I have not missed the time wasted on it. You are definitely correct in your statement that my time is more beneficial in all areas of my life when I am spending more time with the Lord.

You are soooo right!! Like the old computer illustration, garbage in-garbage out. I would love some ideas on how to encourage my young Sunday School class students to embrace this truth. Any suggestions?

You could consider ordering the book where the article came from. Mention that it's for a church and a free copy will be sent with every one purchased.
