Too many American Christians are ignorant of how God says we should judge by His standards between good and evil. Don't rely only on someone else to teach you Christian living, get your information from the source. Read your Bible!( a version you can understand)I've met so many who don't read their Bible very often and so have very little understanding of what God has revealed about Himself or how we should live. As many others have posted "...scripture is good for teaching..." We have the freedom to own a copy God's words. If we don't excersize that freedom, use it and take care of it; then it can be taken away from us. Freedom isn't free! You must treasure it yourself!

Defining our words helps. Proverbs tells us to be informed (knowledge) and to have wisdom and discernment. This is different, in my opinion, than judging. Judging (as Jesus was explaining it) is taking the seat of the Judge and making declarations when we don't know all the facts--and can never really know them as God Himself does. Discernment, on the other hand, is what helps us decide someone's intentions and actions (are they righteous/sinful, helpful/hurtful, building up/destructive, et al). Oh that we all would seek God for wisdom and discernment and leave the judging to Him!

But black and white are exactly the same COLOR, they differ in luminance.
Red and blue, on the other hand, are different colors.
Didn't you take physics?

Studying physics to comprehend the mind of God may indeed be a noble pursuit, but in the end beyond our intellect. "And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." "Those that tell you not to judge, quoting Matthew 7:1 grossly out of context, are often some of the most mean-spirited, judgmental souls you could ever meet." I beg to disagree. Those doing the judging, and, currently, those providing the platforms for those doing the judging, (i.e. the spinners, and the ever more prevalent spin zones) win that prize hands down. Fundagelicals today certainly have perfected the arts of scapegoating, self-justification, and pious conceit. Shame on them for shaming Christians and Christianity.

Good info & right on! Other misquotes rising in the public mind also need notice. The self esteem movement loves to distort "love one another even as you love yourself" to advance their self love, self worship viewpoint. Opra & Dr Phil are high priest & Priestess of this phenomenon and often quote the verse. This makes me feel the same as when I hear a drunkard say, "Use a little wine for the stomach's sake."

This includes both the emotional and physical aspects of individuals as well as their pursuit of happiness. Are you perhaps advocating socialism? Click here to reply to this post

Judging includes sentencing. Only God can sentence a soul to hell, everlasting separation from God. When a Christian reads the Bible and sees that an attitude or behavior is sin according to God's laws and standards, he/she has an obligation to recognize it is sin. This is not judging, this is recognizing fact. The judging comes in when a Christian condemns the sinner to hell and counts the sinner lost with no chance of redemption. Not being God, not being able to see the end from the beginning, and living in the realm of time and not eternity as God does, we cannot determine if the sinner will ever repent and turn to God. The story of the thief on the cross was divinely ordained to be included in the Bible for many reasons. We CAN determine if he/she is committing sin. We can hold up God's word as the only standard by which to live and admit that we all need the Savior. Because I sin, does not cover up or excuse another person's sin or make me incapable of observing and recognizing sin in another person.

Here's my first response - "All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" I would certainly like to be able to respond to the TV ads admonishing us not to be judgmental, by the actor that plays the homosexual on Will & Grace program. That poor guy's lost in the Hollywood delusion. Click here to reply to this post

I AGREE AND DISAGREE WITH YOU. PEOPLE ( CHRISTIANS )CAN ALSO TAKE YOUR VEIW THE WRONG WAY. IT ALSO SAYS IN THE BIBLE TO LOVE THE PERSON BUT NOT THE SIN. I HAVE SEEN CHRISTIANS WHO JUDGE OTHERS WITH HATE TOWARD THESE PEOPLE. MY OWN HUSBAND ACCUSED THESE TWO LADIES OF BEING GAY BECAUSE ONE HAD SHORT HAIR AND THEY WERE HOLDING HANDS. COME TO FIND OUT IT WAS A MOTHER AND DAUGHTER THAT JUST HAVE A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP. I CALL THIS JUDGING. I DO AGREE THAT CHRISTIANS NEED TO GO TO THEIR SENETORS, CONGRESS, SCHOOLS, ECT. AND TAKE A STAND ON MORAL ISSUES. I DO NOT AGREE WITH LOOKING AT SOMEONE AND JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT CARRING A BIBLE AND SAYING AMEN EVERY OTHER WORD ARE ASSUMED TO BE NON-CHRISTIANS.

While it is true that this verse is often misquoted, this article displays some of ideas that some in our culture have rightly reacted against.
For example, almost everyone recognizes that what the terrorists did was wrong (which incidentally calls into question your assumptions about postmodernism being purely relativistic). Although i wasn't in the classroom you mention, I understand the students to be trying to find the real reasons why terrorists are willing to die for their cause. It's easier simply to dismiss terrorists as purely evil Muslims, since it denies we have any responsibility. Recognizing complexity in motives does not imply relativism. Many more 'innocent' civilians have died from American bombs than from terrorist attacks. Even if we didn't intentionally target civilians, we have always known that many would die. Even more 'innocent' civilians have died of hunger than from terrorists, but we seem to spend much much more money fighting terror than fighting poverty.

Thanks for rightly discerning the Truth and alerting the Church of the false teaching, misquoting of Truth and tolerance on the rise. Christ's Church members need to stop being the silent majority, and rise up against immorality & idolatry! II Chr 7:14
Purity in the Church and Righteous living in the world today can only be maintained when God fearing people follow the Commands of Christ, and judge sin and error when it is observed in our lives and in others.
We need to fight for & restore the Judeo- Christian ethics and Biblical Worldview this country was founded upon!
In Christ's Agape Love, Bud Keim
