Brother you made such good points in your article. It is refreshing to see someone that can give a good account of the Gospel. You are so right when you say no one is offended if we preach on healing or doing any other so called good thing. They are only offended if we do it in the name of Jesus Christ crucified. Lou

Simply excellent article. Rick Warren has denied Christ repeatedly as he fills his talks with his own "reverse tithing", his training of thousand, how he's going to end the big problems of the planet, and yet never once mentions Jesus Christ and His power to save. Thank you, Pastor, for the clear Biblical light that shines from your writing.

Thanks for a great article. I am new to your site and this is one of the first articles that I have read. I began reading several of the archives by Bob DeWaay and I have to say what a breath of fresh air. Thanks so much!

Is Silence Denial of the Lord?
Posted On: 01/03/07 08:30:03 AM Age 43, TX
If Warren is silent unless prodded about Jesus Christ, shouldn't we see some chastisement of this fellow from the Father? Has Warren ever been in the fold? I stomached a few chapters of his book a few years ago, and found it was a way to be godly without knowing the True God- the book was contained some Biblical truth but missing the "ingredient" of pointing to Christ and Him crucified. In short, it was "tweaked", and I think Warren's use of so many translations made it easier for him to twist the words of the Bible to fit his agenda. Will a Pastor lead others away from their Shepherd? Is "Pastor" Rick's silence on the Blessed Saviour indeed denial of Jehovah? Those who remain and abide, please join me in thanking God for giving us ears to hear by His grace instead of itching ears to hear a "good life" message now.

I believe Rick Warren confesses and lifts the name of Jesus. And he is training others to do likewise, by the thousands. Hasn't the Holy Spirit led him to do this around the globe and in many languages? I wish that I could say I have caused as many to even think about Jesus. Yes, Jesus is the eternal answer and solution for us all; but equally true is He taught us how to love and live here on earth. And to the obedient He promised the fruit of the Spirit: Joy, Peace, Love, Comfort, Mercy, Kindness, Goodness, and Faithfulness.

I am continually reminded in these last days that wisdom does not necessarily come with age.

If that's the case, then why have Oprah, Hollywood personalities, professional athletes, and Fortune 500 CEOs read PDL and still continue unchanged in their lifestyles and worldviews? James 4:4: "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God." Luke 6:26: "Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets."

Many of the "emerging" Mega Churches are starting to show their true worth. It would seem that BIG church populations give their leaders the opportunity for great influence, money and power. We are seeing, once again, that few are immune to the effects of influence, money and power. It is, after all, the best the world has to offer. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us, we were saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves so that we wouldnt boast. Yet we live the Christian life not through faith or by grace, because we too often operate as self-dependent beings. It is no wonder that we have an ego problem among pastors and Christians. The church in America is littered with self-sufficiency. God will humble us if we do not humble ourselves. 2 Corinthians 4:7 says, But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. The power to change lives is from God and not from us. Why are we so worried about empowering us with us or some other fleshly strategy, enterprise, or idea? It is God who does the work. It is God who has the all-surpassing power. (patially quoted from Catch Fire: A Call to Spiritual Awakening by Brenton M. Barnett) I don't personally know Rick Warren or Joel Osteen, but, I have enjoyed some of their works. OOOOPS. I guess that's OK, though. After all, I also go to secular movies and fantasize and eat marshmallows til I am stuffed. Problem is, it's fantasy and fluff. None of it does any good and doesn't stay with me. And, then later, I can't sleep and I don't feel so good. It's the same with a lot of what these guys offer. Fantasy and Fluff. The real problem lies in the fact that we are being convinced to try to apply this fantasy and fluff to real life. It has never worked and it won't work now. Let's get back to eating the Flesh of Jesus and drinking His Blood. It's fulling and it lasts!

I agree. Pastor DeWaay, I think you have made a valid point and have organized your thoughts well. You ask at the end: "The Washington Post reporter got the message that Obama and Warren are both retailing hope in their own ways. But is either proclaiming the hope of eternal life for those who have had their sins washed away by the blood of Jesus?" My answer would be NO, they seem to have some worldly agenda: In Warren's case, it might be to sell more books. In Obama's case, it might just be simple wanting to get ahead after being suppressed for so long as an Afro American. The Scripture says we cannot love both God and Mammon. Thank you Pastor DeWaay. I have appreciated other of your messages in the past.

Beginning thirty or more years ago, when I first read this scripture, I have prayed and planned that if and when I stand before kings, I would allow the Holy Spirit's words to come instead of my own. I believe God works through all Christians but I am living proof that the world can creep in slowly and unnoticed if daily commitment lacks. I pray that Rick Warren will use his position to lift up Jesus Christ and nothing else. Thanks to everyone at Worldview Weekend who works so hard for the Kingdom of God.
