"Culture War" This is not a critique of the message in this article, but a question about how Christian messages are presented, in this case the use of a word and a phrase that has been adopted by leaders in our movement. Like many others, the author of this article refers to the "Culture War" we are in. Whether a bloodless war or not, if promoting Christianity and Christian values is characterized as a "war", it seems to me that it puts the rest of society in an adversarial position. I don't pretend to be as knowledgeable about theology as the author but it also seems un-Christlike to me. Maybe that is just the pacifist in me. So many bloody wars have been fought in the name of Christianity that it seems foolish to characterize the promotion of Christian values as a war. Maybe that is just the public relations experience in me. I realize that the word "war" is also used to label non-violent conflicts or serious efforts to combat or eradicate something, such as "War on Drugs". Using the word in the context of eradicating or controlling drug use is one thing. It seems to me that using a word that is primarily associated with armed conflict to characterize a movement based on Christian values is a different matter. Did Jesus fight a culture war to save souls? Can someone enlighten me?

The scriptures say that you are correct. Eph 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." I agree with you, the attitude of many christians in this "culture war" does not seem to be Christ like. (Philippians 2:5-9) "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be Grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death -- even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him THE NAME THAT IS ABOVE EVERY NAME, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord," I agree with the article the Golden Plover is an amazing creature of Gods creation. However the church does not have a very good track record in its "war with science". In the past the church has murdered many men who were seeking truth and found truth that glorified God. But this truth did not glorify the church because the churches position was wrong. The church would respond by murdering the man who disagreed with its belief. But the church was not fighting against a man but it was fighting against God. If you study the history of the church and the history of science you will find they have both been wrong in the past about science. I find the attitude of many people in the church today to be much the same as is was in the 1500s. They want to murder(shun) anyone who interprets the scriptures different than they do, instead of being humble and listening to the persons viewpoint.

Very nicely done. We must maintain the urgency to know the traps of the world in order to reach the trapped, but the call to step back and reflect on the glory of our God is one we don't hear often enough. Awe and wonder and adoration - remembering Who God is can keep our fight for truth pure; dispelling fear and quashing self-righteousness. Thank you for the reminder.

What DO evolutionists say about the plover's abilities? It seems hasty to conclude "it must be direct guidance by God's hand" without first looking into alternative explanations. Otherwise, all we're doing is witnessing what is currently a puzzle, and concluding from the fact that we don't YET possess a solution to that puzzle (if indeed that's a fact - maybe it isn't) that "God did it." Hopefully everyone recognizes that that's a pretty poor inference. After all, just about everything we currently have "scientific" explanations for was at some time a puzzle of a similar sort.
