BINGO!!!! (Can one shout that on a Christian site?) I've been pointing this out to laymen and pastors (some of whom "teach at seminaries!") for several years. It amazes me that supposedly mature saints do not comprehend the context of verses they (mis-) use. How can one presume to be "rightly dividing the Word" when one doesn't realize one of the most basic rules of doing so? Context is to interpretation as location is to real estate. It's "context, context, context!" - as in historical, cultural, and literary. Beat the drum! All God's children need to know. I'm fairly well hard headed. If I can understand this rule for Biblical interpretation, your pastor can too!

Thanks so much for this article, Pastor DeWaay. Much needed clarification. Just because I publish a column in my local Christian paper doesn't mean I agree with the ads for various and sundry other things they promote. It is a very needy place for the truth of God's Word and that's why I do it. I do consider it like Mars Hill. Where better to put the truth. Thanks again.

Wonderful article. It underscores the fact that separation not mandated by God is an attack on the gospel. On the other side changing the gospel message to make it appealing to the world is also an attack on the gospel. Both are wrong and both are to be opposed. We must obey neither the isolationists nor the Purpose Drive/Seeker for both minimize the message of the gospel and the freedom found there. Thank you Pastor DeWaay.
