Liberals Are Evil, Wrong, and Nuts! (Part II)

In part I of this short series, I attempted to prove that liberals are evil because they preach and practice things that God has determined are evil.[1] I trust I made my point well and offered sufficient proof to sustain my charge.

Lest it get lost in the process allow me to clarify my purpose in writing these two articles on liberals. I want to help Christians understand who the enemy is. Yes, I know we wrestle not against flesh and blood,[2] but spiritual forces manifest their evil through people. We have to address what occurs in the physical realm as well as in the spiritual. Scripture is clear on this and offers many examples.

Sun Tzu also offers us priceless advice in his classic book The Art of War. He says that if we know our self and our enemy we need not fear the results of the next hundred battles. In contrast, he warns, if we don't know our self and we don't know our enemy we will succumb in every battle. We should listen to Sun Tzu as military leaders have for twenty-five centuries.

I will now make the case that liberals are wrong in their approach to solving our nation's problems and wrong in their worldview. It is also my sincere belief that many liberals are truly nuts. They are so filled with anger and hate, and their rationality so skewed that their behavior and rhetoric would force an objective person to label them as mentally ill. I am certainly not alone in believing this.[3] 

Liberals in America generally fall into a worldview located somewhere between socialist and Marxist. Personally, I think the majority of them are closer to the Marxist side of the spectrum. This would account for their vitriol aimed at corporate America, Christianity, George Bush, and anyone or anything who or which is successful.[4]

By virtue of their worldview they must rely on failure to advance their cause. They want the United States to fail in Iraq. They want any policy advanced by Republicans and especially George Bush to fail. They want the economy to tank. If you watch what and who they support, what ideas they advance, and what and who they attack you will clearly see what it is they are up to.

Proving that liberals are usually wrong shouldn't take much time. Socialism was first tried probably within hours after God ousted the first family from the Garden of Evil. It has been tried repeatedly throughout history right up till today. One fact describes every attempt: Socialism doesn't work.

Socialism has never worked except for short periods of time and usually in times of extreme emergency. As an economic system it always fails. If you know anything about economics you already know that it can't work. I highly recommend Thomas Sowell's great book, Basic Economics, for anyone who wants to better understand these principles from a great author.

The Pilgrims experimented with socialism in the 1600s and when enough people died trying it, it was abandoned. It has been tried from time to time in our country especially during the early to mid-1800s. All attempts failed.  Liberals want us to keep trying though. They are still convinced it can work in America. American's can always do things better, even bad things. It won't work. It can't.

All one has to do is understand basic human nature to conclude why socialism doesn't work. When the rewards for hard work are removed from the system people cease to work or they work as little as possible. How hard would you work if the wealth you produce is taken and given to others who don't produce? Also, as this system progresses everyone's standard of living goes down, not up.[5]

Marxism/Socialism lasted for about 75 years in the Worker's Paradise (former Soviet Union). Tens of millions died from that attempt and many millions more have died in China, Cuba, Viet Nam, and other nations within the last century. Some estimate the deaths total closer to 180 million or more. Sounds like something worth a try doesn't it?

Another major reason that liberals are wrong is that in their worldview the savior is big government. Big government can solve any problem in their minds, with enough money.

Have you ever noticed when a government program fails the response is always "we need more money!" They never admit failure, only a lack of funds. So, they get more money. They fail again. The cycle continues forever ala public schools.

Finally, are liberals really crazy? I think so. The main reason that liberals do crazy things is, I believe, that they have severed themselves from the anchor of life: Jesus. They have abandoned a biblical worldview for another one whether it is Marxism, New Ageism, humanism or some form of it.

This is why liberals regularly defend animal rights over human rights. This is why they elevate the environment over man for whom God made the heavens and the earth. Some liberal extremists go so far as to advocate that the human race be drastically reduced (killed if necessary) in order to protect Mother Earth. This is similar to a belief held by Marxists who believe that anything that hinders the success of Marxism is expendable. These are both extreme examples of the ends justifying the means.

My next point will be difficult for some to accept. It will be hard for two reasons. The truth is that many Christians still cling to a belief in the overall goodness of man. Jeremiah 17:9[6] and other Scriptures warn us of our propensity to sin. For human beings it is far easier to do the wrong thing than the right one. Biblically speaking we are not basically good. We are fallen and depraved. Even after redemption we struggle with doing the right things at certain times. I've cut way back on sinning but I'm just not where I want to be yet.

Second and similar to my first point, many Christians still hold to the idea that man over time is getting better, an unbiblical evolutionary view. Again, much of this is subconscious. Most wouldn't admit to holding to these beliefs but you can see it manifest in their statements and actions.

I will ask some questions to demonstrate my thesis. Do you think that what happened in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, could happen here? Could our freedoms disappear and people be imprisoned and tortured for being Christians? Could what happened in Rome happen here? Could Christians be thrown into the arena to be tortured and killed for public amusement? If you say no, you are in denial, a deadly denial. You also validate my thesis. Man has not changed one iota since his fall.

My wife Susan and I were doing our morning devotional using Charles Colson's book, How Now Shall We Live? In the June 8^th chapter a true story is told about some events that took place in Boulder, Colorado.

In January 2004 a mountain lion had attacked and killed a cyclist. Thirteen years prior a mountain lion had killed a teenage jogger. Boulder residents were rightfully frightened over the possibility of further deadly animal incursions. The story behind the story was really about a clash of worldviews. In reality, a pagan worldview was at the root of the deaths by lion.

Many residents of the area were liberal environmentalists with an anti-Biblical worldview. They wanted to create a paradise environment.[7] Wildlife experts warned residents over a five-year period that the deer population was out of control and could draw mountain lions down into town. As predicted, they came.

Unfortunately, the concern of residents was more for the well being of the lions and the deer than for the residents. They ignored the warnings even in spite of some pet dogs being attacked and eaten by the lions. Don't you agree that this is crazy behavior? But it gets even crazier!

At one public meeting a believer in Lakota spirituality proffered the idea that everything in nature is connected including rocks, dirt, lions, bugs….everything!

Even after the death of the most recent teenage victim there was not the expected public backlash. In fact, one of the teenager's teachers complained. She believed that instead of burying the victim's body, the lion should have had the benefit of having it for food. Is this crazy enough for you?

Now I could fill pages with similar bizarre stories but I won't because many other authors already have. Can we not accept the fact that just because someone isn't under a doctor's care that they could still be mentally ill? Is it possible that even people in high office or with great economic power could be crazy?

Forrest Gump was fond of saying, "Stupid is, as stupid does." I think Forrest would agree with me, and hopefully you do too, that "Crazy is, as Crazy does."

In closing, let me respond to some of my critics. I agree that the only true solution to the liberal worldview is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the power unto salvation. You will get no argument from me. The optimum outcome is for liberals to truly know Jesus Christ and exchange their pagan worldview for the true one found in Scripture. In my mind this is obvious so I didn't state it previously. This was probably an error on my part.

I also realize that some may think I am mean-spirited. I really am not. My concern is that too many Christians do not recognize the enemy so I don't put a lot of poetry in my language. This battle of the worldviews goes far beyond bad versus good politics. This goes the heart of life. It goes to answer the question of which God we will worship and serve in this country. My prayer is that the conversion of many liberals will lead to the ultimate reformation of our great nation.
