Good News from Capitol Hill
Last Thursday, May 7, Cheryl and I were in Washington, D. C., for the 58th commemoration of the National Day of Prayer.
As with previous years, a packed-house gathered for a remarkable three hours of nationally-televised prayer in one of the largest rooms in the U. S. House office buildings. Each year, representatives from each branch of government have addressed the gathering to deliver prayer requests for their particular branch. This year, U. S. Representative Michele Bachmann represented the Legislative Branch and Fifth Circuit Judge Priscilla Owen represented the Federal Judiciary. But for the first time in two decades, the White House sent no representative for the Executive Branch.
Numerous Congressmen did attend to join in prayer; I wanted to share with you what two of these Godly leaders did on the floor of Congress in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer.
U. S. Rep. Randy Forbes (VA) -- the chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus -- gave a speech directly addressing President Obama's statement that "we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation." It is an excellent five-minute clip that you can view. (You can also see the bill that he mentioned by visiting: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=hr111-397.)
Also, you can see U. S. Rep. Mike Pence (IN) begin U. S. House business with a one-minute speech on America as a nation of prayer.
These types of uplifting speeches, completely ignored by the opposition media, are truly encouraging to watch. After you see them, I encourage you to share them with friends and to call Rep. Randy Forbes (202.225.6365) and Rep. Mike Pence (202.225.3021) to let them know how much you appreciate their stand on prayer and faith in America. You can also express your thanks to Rep. Mike Pence through an email.
God Bless! David Barton
