Father-goddess Christianity

by John Lanagan

Is the novel, The Shack, just cutting-edge fiction? Or the entrance of something else?

                                                           * * * * * *

Look, the prophet has pushed aside the Bible and placed a new book before God's people. A novel. He ascends the steps and speaks to us from the pulpit. He is not alone. Can you see her? Can you see her hovering there? How beautiful is the Father-goddess!

Through her prophet she shares healing wisdom. They say God can do anything, and we have decided we want a goddess. All right, so such a thing is nowhere in the Bible. What of it? It is in the new book. Surely we can pray more effectively, relate more easily, to our Queen of Heaven.

Her prophet says the Queen of Heaven does not punish sinners. This is very good news. Look, there she is, blowing kisses to the congregation.

The Father-goddess tells us the real meaning of the cross. She never, never-NEVER!-punished her Son as atonement for our sins. There is no penal atonement, she says, only relationship.

Yes, we are in relationship with our Queen. We dance and whirl and worship. As we adore her, and praise her prophet for the new book, a few people in the back of the church shout warnings.

No one listens. The Father-goddess hears them. She grins, and blows them a kiss. Her smile is beautiful, and her teeth are very sharp.

                                                                   * * * * *

As for the message that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we are not going to listen to you. But rather we will certainly carry out every word that has proceeded from our mouths, by burning sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to

her… (Jeremiah 44:16-17)

No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (2 Corinthians 11:14)
