Let's Get Lincoln's Bible into the Capitol Visitors Center

February 10, 2008

Last December, the U. S. Capitol Visitors Center officially opened to the public. Each day, some 15,000 Americans -- including thousands of schoolchildren -- go through that building to learn the history and operations of the U. S. Congress.

For nearly five years during its construction, we carefully monitored the content of the hundreds of historical displays in that Center. We found many historical inaccuracies, including much secular anti-religious bias throughout those displays. (To see an 8-minute presentation on the problems in the Visitor Center, see "The War on God in America.")

In addition to the many mistakes and obvious bias, there were also many missed opportunities. For example, the Center currently displays the small iron table used by Abraham Lincoln during his Second Inauguration to hold a small glass of water and his Bible; so why not display Lincoln's Bible atop the table originally designed to hold it?

To that end -- and capitalizing on Obama's use of the Lincoln Bible during his own inauguration -- Congressman Randy Forbes of Virginia (head of the Congressional Prayer Caucus) has introduced a resolution urging the display of the Lincoln Bible in the Capitol Visitor Center.

That resolution -- H.Con.Res. 34 -- is an excellent way to place more of America's Godly heritage on display for all Americans. We encourage you to contact your Congressman and ask him or her to co-sponsor H.Con.Res. 34.

Thanks for your efforts to help educate others about America's unique religious history! (Please feel free to forward this to others and encourage them to action.)

God bless!
