American Idol Clay Aiken Is Another Gay "Christian"?
By Ken Silva
Unrepentant Homosexual Practice Is As Much A Sin As Adultery
Another born again practicing homosexual "Christian"; apparently so. People magazine informs is, "Clay Aiken is no longer the charmingly awkward, self-confessed 'dork' who came in second on 2003's second season of American Idol." No indeed, "the 27-year-old, Southern Baptist-bred singer" dropped a bit of a bomb shell in "Clay Aiken: I'm a Gay Dad":
following through on a promise he made to himself as a new dad: to publicly acknowledge that he's gay... Aiken says... "Whether it be having a child out of wedlock, or whether it be simply being a homosexual, it's going to be a lot," ... The born-again Christian singer also reveals how he told his mother Faye he's gay four years ago. (Online source)
Aiken would also later place his "Christian testimony" on national television when he discussed the issue with Diane Sawyer, where to my eye he comes off as rather flippant concerning his sin. And this news about another "born-again Christian" who's a practicing homosexual coming right on the heels of "Gospel" singer Ray Boltz who made a rather shocking announcement in that he is also unrepentant in his own practice of the sin of homosexuality.
Expel The Immoral From Among Other Christians
As a pastor my concern in bringing this before the Body of Christ is not in any way meant to belittle Boltz or Aiken. Rather it is to show you another of the tragic effects of the current Emerging rebellion against Sola Scriptura. Here we have two men who claim to be Christians but still remain content to live in open, unrepentant, and blatant defiance of God's Word. And yet it appears rather obvious that we're witnessing just the tip of an iceberg of apostasy so we have not heard the last of these kinds of expressions of Christianity, which clearly contradict sound Biblical teaching.
Sadly, the growing acceptance of the Emerging Church within evangelicalism has much to do with this wrong kind of tolerance for the sin of homosexuality within the Christian Church. Once "churches" like Metropolitan Community Church were rightly largely outside even the mainline denominations. But as the Cult of Liberal Theology killed more and more of these groups we have come to see an acceptance of unrepentant sinners grow to the point where the Episcopal Church even put them in charge of other churches evidenced by Practicing Homosexual Bishop Gene Robinson: "This Is Where God Is Leading The Whole Church".
What blasphemy it is to say that God is leading His Church to embrace what He has clearly called sinful behavior. And it gets worse than Robinson's mere speculation. We even have the "gay-affirming" Emerging Church "pastor" Jay Bakker who shares his direct revelation from the Lord on the subject. You see Bakker's "god" told him personally that the practice of homosexuality is no longer sin:
"The more I follow grace, the more I'm drawn to him [God], the more I'm willing to stand up for people being persecuted," says Jay today. "This sounds so churchy, but I felt like God spoke to my heart and said '[homosexuality] is not a sin.' "
But such is the sad state of affairs in the Emergent Church and postevangelicalism. You see, because they have rejected the final authority of God's Word, ala Emergent icon Rob Bell, in favor of highly subjective experience-which Bell refers to as "mystery"-they have no real way to test whether these existential feelings and impressions really are from God. Therefore they have no choice but to be "tolerant" of anyone who claims they are Christian regardless of their lifestyle or doctrine.
As a matter of fact in a phone conversation Tony Jones personally confirmed to me that he stands by the following quote from his interview in Relevant magazine, which I use in Tony Jones And The Emergent Church: "Christian" Gay Is A-Ok:
[In Emergent Village w]e have everything you could imagine. We have Texas Baptists who don't let women preach, and we have lesbian mainline pastors in New England… We haven't yet found that there's anything that justifies us breaking fellowship with somebody else who loves and is trying to follow Jesus.
Kind of sounds like the ever pragmatic Rick Warren doesn't it. AM has shown Warren accepts apostate Roman Catholicism as a legitimate expression of the historic orthodox Christian faith in "Bible Scholar" Rick Warren Reversing The Reformation; and what is more, he's also on record emphatically declaring: "I see absolutely zero reason in separating my fellowship from anybody". You need to understand that these people-pleasers do sound good but let us not be taken in by them because the Lord has already told us there's also a good reason why; they are speaking from the flesh - from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. (1 John 4:5)
But how much better we do things in the Church they way the Lord has instructed us - Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you." Or maybe you think that Rick Warren, Tony Jones, and the postliberal cult of the Emerging Church really are smarter than the inspired Apostle Paul. By the way; whatever happened to the man above who was expelled from fellowship with other Christians? It might be worth your time to look it up and see what happens when the Church actually does things God's way.
