Health care "Hillary Style"; It Will Make You Sick!
By Rev. Dr. David M. Berman Th.D                www.wakeupandsmellthetruth.com

Those who favor "Universal Healthcare" otherwise properly known as Socialized Medicine, often point to Canada and the United Kingdom as examples of socialist health care utopia. They laud the "accomplishments" of both the United Kingdom and Canada's health care system with grand descriptions. They make grand claims of how much more efficient, available, and higher quality their systems are. The problem is that the facts are contrary to these romantic proclamations. What are the facts about health care in Canada and the United Kingdom? We shall get to that in a moment. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and the rest of the Socialists continue to call for the confiscation of the health care industry. Imagine if you will what that would look like; one central government agency with total power over all health care. Hillary Clinton, during her husband's presidency, had many clandestine meetings with unnamed "experts" when she was trying to establish total government control over health care. She even pushed to make it illegal to choose to pay someone for private health care. That is the stuff that horror movies are made of! This is the goal that all the liberals have. They want more and more government control over the citizens. Now let's look at some interesting facts that should make us pause at the notion that more government is needed in Health Care.

1) When commenting on why the Canadian supreme court decided to allow for private health care and insurance, Canadian Supreme Court Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin and Justice John Major wrote: "The evidence in this case shows that delays in the public health care system are widespread, and that, in some serious cases, patients die as a result of waiting lists for public health care." (Source - The weekly standard article By David Gratzer June 27, 2005)
2) Only half as many Canadians as Americans get dialysis, per capita. Only a third as many Brits as Americans get dialysis, per capita.

3) One-fourth of Canadian men diagnosed with prostate cancer die from it. Compare this with the fact that less than one fifth of American men diagnosed with prostate cancer die from it.

4) 900,000 Canadian patients are on the waiting list to get into hospitals at any one time.
5) 1 million people are waiting to get into British hospitals at any one time.
6) Britain has half the number of CAT scanners per capita as in the U.S.
7) The American rate of coronary bypass surgeries is 5 times what it is in Britain.

What about other Socialist Counties? Consider these facts:
1) 90,000 patients in New Zealand are on waiting lists at any one time
2) One-third of women diagnosed with breast cancer in France and Germany die from it. Almost one-half of women diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK and New Zealand die from it. About one-fifth of American women diagnosed with breast cancer die from it.

Health care is in a crisis yes but not because of the reasons that so many liberals proclaim. I believe that the leftists are actually glad that there is a healthcare crisis. There is no doubt that they are licking their chops as they look to hunt down every last vestige of private enterprise. Socialists always appeal to the masses with grandiose proclamations of centralized power. They use emotional tools to move an uninformed public to the belief that central government power has the answer. The problem they want to fix is only a problem because of the continued implementation of their socialist world view in the first place. The more socialist policies are implemented, the more problems are caused by it. Then the socialists proclaim the need for more socialism to fix what socialism caused. This is a convoluted mind set that makes government turned to again in order to fix what they created. After a while the populace becomes so dependent on the government that any suggestion of changing the status quo to truly fix the problems caused by socialism is received with an out cry. This out cry is due to the insidious addiction that people have to government crumbs. There are many people who do not agree with government control but have been so backed into a corner by the results of socialist policies that they have no other choice. For example; many people want to send their children to a private school but because of the government socialist confiscation of money from the family, most have no choice but to send their kids to public schools. In the same way many people do not want to lean on the government for health care help, but have no choice because the system is broken due to a lack of market forces that keep price in check and the quality at optimum levels. This is the truth about all of socialism but concerning the topic at hand let us look to the main reasons that Healthcare is in crisis:

Reason number one:
There are no market forces in the delivery of health care to the individual Patient.

The simple laws of supply and demand and what the market will bear have been shown to be the bed rock principles of economic trade. Somehow when looking at healthcare the idea is that market forces do not matter. The mind set is that healthcare is a right. You will not find that in the constitution anywhere but for the sake of discussion let's assume it is a right. The question would be "How can we make sure that the best healthcare is available to everyone?" If we assume it is a "right" (which it is not) and therefore decide that the central government will administer the healthcare system, is that the best way to achieve optimal health care? The answer is a resounding no. On what do I base this answer? In part on the afore mentioned facts about the socialist health care systems of Canada and the UK. Further more when anyone who takes the time to study history it is clear that socialist principles never work. The socialist interference with the health care market has already caused great harm to the system. There is no incentive to save money by being efficient in the purchase of health care. When is the last time that you checked the charges from a hospital visit outside of what you personally had to pay? Most people have no idea what the cost is for a hospital visit. The fact is that most people do not care because all they care about is what it costs them. The health care industry is full of waste and disincentive for efficiency. If market forces were at work there would be a demand for efficiency.

It should be clear that even though our system is in crisis it is still better than the totally socialist systems as seen above. If we continue to go the way of "Hillary care" we will continue to spiral down to the abyss of Marxist torment. Market forces must be introduced in order to ensure quality and availability. There must be competition for the consumer dollars like in any market. It is quite amazing what happens when people have to choose and pay for what they use or buy. All the sudden there are competing interests. The interest of the patient is clear. The patient wants to get the best they can for the least amount of money. The interest of the Doctor is clear. The Doctor wants to make a living. This is not to suggest that that is the only motive of the Doctor but still it is a major motive. If the Doctor has to compete for patients, he will cut unimportant costs and increase investment in delivering a quality service. If word gets around that a particular Doctor is not good, he will go out of business! That would be good for everyone. With socialized healthcare, you get what they give you good or bad. There is nothing you can do about it. What more do we need to see before we wake up and smell the truth about human nature? Supply and demand along with what the market will bear should be the guide in any economy. Health care is no different. Unless it is generally treated as a market we will continue to have increased cost until the people are so tired and unable to pay that they give in to the lies of central power. If that happens, Hillary and the rest of her Democrat liberals will bring the system down to a point as bad as the public school system. God help us. "Hillary Care" will only increase the problems we have now.

Reason number two:
The government promotes waste and poor management.
Can we point to one agency in the government that does not waste tons of money every year? The Katrina debacle alone should be a testimony to the incompetence of government. Conservative estimates are that the government has wasted over TWO BILLION dollars in that alone (probably much more). Every agency wastes money because there is no incentive not to. I detail how this all tends to happen in my book "Wake up and Smell the Truth" (available at www.wakeupandsmellthetruth.com) It is extremely important to understand philosophically why socialism can't work.
Government is not in business to produce. Government is in business to confiscate power and money. All we have to do is to look at how socialized education has panned out!!!! What a colossal failure that is. How about 80 years of history concerning the massive failure of socialist ideas? This is why our founding fathers established Constitutional limited government. Since FDR and his "new deal" which I call "deal with tyranny" there has been a systematic attack on our founding limited government principles. Expansive government has been shown in every instance to be wasteful.

Reason number three:
The system is being over taxed by illegal aliens.
With the estimated 12 million (in reality more like 20 million) illegal aliens in this country, we are seeing a massive burden put on out healthcare system. In California alone there was 84 hospitals closed due to the number of illegal aliens that they are mandated to care for without charge. (Source- Chong, J-R. Hawthorne Hospital to shut doors. R.F. Kennedy Medical Center cites financial problems for closure. sixth ER in LA County this year. L.A Times, Sept 24, 2004.)
According to a CNN.com report dated May/10/2005 the federal government is now paying one billion dollars to states to help pay for illegal aliens heath care. According to the report "The states receiving the highest amounts in the current fiscal year are California, $70.8 million; Texas, $46 million; Arizona, $45 million; and New York, $12.25 million." Not to mention another 3.7 billion that Medicare spends alone. This is an out rage. The amount of money that is being paid for by tax dollars is insane. Conservative estimates are that the total cost to the heath care system by illegal aliens is 21 billion dollars per year! It is both presumptuous and criminal for those who are here by breaking our laws to expect that we pay for their health care unless there is an immediate life threatening situation. This government must live up to its main constitutional responsibilities and defend the borders! Stop the flow of illegal aliens into this country and we must amend the 14th amendment of the Constitution due to the abuse of it so that illegal aliens can no longer claim their "anchor babies" are automatic citizens. There are approximately 500,000 babies born here per year from illegal aliens. These babies are then used as a way to get a foot hold in this country for the rest of the illegal family. This is an abuse of our good will. A social service given to illegal aliens is the most absurd policy there is. Again if you are here illegally you should get nothing except care for an immediate life threatening situation.

Reason number Four:
Law suits
This country is in serious need of tort reform. It is amazing to me just how absurd it is that millions and millions of dollars are awarded for absurd claims. Someone smokes for 30 years and gets sick so who is responsible? The tobacco companies are. (There is never a mention of the fact that government receives more money from cigarette sales then these companies do) How about the old blame the coffee maker because you spilled the hot coffee on your self and did not know that the hot coffee that you ordered to be hot was hot! That mind set transfers to all society and thus Doctors can be held responsible for anything.

This has cause malpractice insurance to go through the roof. According to a 2004 report by CBS news (hardly a rightwing news agency)
"A Doctor by the name of Paul Tudder figures he's delivered about 4,000 babies in 21 years, and in that time, he's never been sued. Yet, as CBS News Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports, his malpractice insurance has gone through the roof. His premium was $23,000 in 2002. Then it jumped to $47,000. This year (2004), he got a quote for $84,000."

These numbers are due to many law suits even though he had not had a law suit brought against him personally. If there truly is a reason to bring an action for mal practice I am fine with that. It is often not the case when an action is brought. Often it is excessive. This leads to a strong burden on the health care system.

What about the uninsured in the private system is am championing? Would I have them go without any care? I believe that the market would make a way to provide healthcare to those who do not have much money and the rest would be from a non profit charity situation. Because the government has stuck its nose into the system so much it has caused much of the problem in health care now. I believe that a system of private sector clinics from charitable contributions would meet the need if there were not so much confiscation of private sector wealth creation.

I ask you this. Why would you trust those who have been proven to be unwise, wasteful, inept, and at times criminal to run your health care? Would you bring your car to a mechanic that has proved that to you? Would you go back to any store that proved that to you? The answer is a clear and strong no. Yet many are willing to give charge over their health care to the government that has proven over and over to be unwise, wasteful, inept, and at times criminal. That is simply illogical. Of course there is no system that is perfect but without a doubt a private market driven system is the best way to go. As it always is, I know there will be many who send me hate mail because I make sense of their nonsense. That is unfortunate. The left will simply not listen to reason. They will not ever concede to the fact that central power is anti freedom and counterproductive. I hope to get those of you that read this and still have a thinking mind to stand with me against the take over of health care by Hillary and her fellow tyrannical liberals. I warn you that they will not stop at that. They will not ever stop at their quest to control everything. Please send this to as many people as you can so that they may know the truth. We must fight the agenda of the left. The expansion of centralized power is never the answer. Take is from our first President:

"Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force. Like a fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master"
-George Washington

What a great quote from the first president. I couldn't have said it better myself.
